Nothing new on Raytown murders, but you'll see the story on tonight's news anyway

If you see a promo for one of the TV stations pushing breaking news on the Raytown murders, it's bullshit -- there isn't any.

Maybe I'm a bit naive to think that the detectives working the Raytown homicide investigation have better things to do than help with sweeps. I attended the press briefing this morning and shot some video, but I should have turned my camera on the shameless TV newsies who requested a 3:30 p.m. briefing even if there was nothing new to report on the case. "All our boss cares about are words," one of the TV reporters said.

A couple of hours ago, I called detective Robert Delameter. I asked him if the press briefing would be worth the drive.

"I hate to call them press conferences because I really don't have anything new," Delameter told me. "I know everybody has questions that I can't answer, but I'm going to stand out there and be abused again if you want to come out."

I didn't want to waste my time -- or his -- if there was nothing new.

"I can't foresee having anything in the next hour," Delameter told me. "There's nothing new that I have."

Maybe the cops cracked the case in the last hour. But I doubt it.
