St. Paddy's Day in the P&L isn't for guys in white T-shirts

Posted by Justin Kendall on Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 7:43 AM

I shot some shaky videos of the St. Patrick's Day of the party in the Power & Light District. The Pitch Action News team -- me and Jason Harper, Nadia Pflaum and Peter Rugg -- had headed over. But we almost didn't get a chance to join the festivities. Harper had regrettably worn a plain white T-shirt. That's a big no-no in the KC Live block -- at least until this whole dress code business gets sorted out (not that Councilman Terry Riley's compromise counts).

"But I'm white," Harper protested mockingly when the gatekeepers wouldn't let him in.

No go. Hey, maybe this wasn't about racial profiling after all.

We averted disaster when Rugg lent Harper the Pitch T-shirt that he was wearing over his thermal. We got in. Good thing Harper changed, or he would have gotten the boot like this guy in a plain white T-shirt.

They escorted him all the way out. Listen carefully for a guy who claimed that he worked with all the bars in the P&L hassling me about a press pass on this next video. That's Rugg playing peacemaker.

Notice the guy walking up the stairs in a white T-shirt? He was OK because his shirt had a logo. I'm not trying to piss on the parade, but seeing this was kind've a downer on an otherwise great day.

Really? What was this good looking, nicely dressed gentleman doing that he needed to be escorted out by 2 security guards? Wearing a stylish white t-shirt! Give me a break!! Yeah he looked like someone who brings down the reputation of the P&L district, especially on St.Pats day.
