This week: Get cinematically inspired to stop buying tap water in pointless and polluting plastic bottles, help the cash-strapped city deal with its bank-breaking storm water problem by learning to contain with your own dirty run-off and strike fear into the hearts of politicians who hate to see a crowd of protesters on their lawn by enrolling in a free class on how to become an effective rabble-rouser.

Local environmentalist Kate Corwin has been pressing Kansas City council members to abandon those eco-annoying plastic bottles at City Hall. I dare you to sit in on her screening of "Addicted to Plastic" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church and NOT sign her petition at the end of this documentary.

With local government and media hemorrhaging staff, grassroots organizers are becoming only more critical in raising hell and enacting solutions to our city's many problems. Learn how to be a rabble-rouser by attending the free Community Leadership Program that will teach residents all sorts of organizing skills. The first of the five-class series -- with three locations to choose from around the city -- is Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

When it rains, water cascades off your roof, floods into the overburdened sewers and washes all sorts of nasty urban grime into local streams and rivers. For $45, Bridging the Gap will provide the materials and education to make a rain barrel that catches all that water and contains it for better use around the garden. The first hands-on workshop this spring is Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kansas City Community Gardens Center.

Last year, so many people showed up to show off their organizations that the informational gatherings overflowed the room. At it again, the Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Kansas City is hosting its first Citywide Organization Meeting of 2009 at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Spirit of Hope MCC.

"Do post-transitional societies become more women-friendly as they become more democratic?" Good question. Learn how women around the world deal with trauma and struggle for equality when the authors of "Feminist Conversations: Women, Trauma and Empowerment" speak at the Plaza Library on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

This week, KU's Voices for Palestine is hosting a two-day workshop in Lawrence, showcasing indigenous hip hop. The grand finale is a Thursday night screening of "Slingshot Hip Hop," a Sundance selection documentary about rappers in the Palestinian territory. The 7:30 screening at the Haskell auditorium is free, and, yes, there will be live DJs.

Quick: What's the 10th Amendment? Don't know? Conservative Kansas lawmaker Mary Pilcher-Cook and her backers from the November Patriots want to tell you why it's important and how it's being threatened in the Sunflower State at a Town Hall Meeting at Olathe City Hall on Thursday. Rally starts at 6:30 p.m.

have to say i agree with Modog. If they're chasing away white and black folks who are dressed like shit, good for them. It's only when the enforcement is selective that I have a problem.

As far as the white T thing... How about wearing something else? What happened to getting "dressed" to go out? In most circles a white T is considered an "undershirt". Jeez, I can't believe people are making such a big deal out of this. That's why KC will NEVER get over being a small city with big city dream - it focuses on such petty b.s. Pull up your pants, wear a shirt, go out and have a good time. Oh, and case anyone was wondering or if it makes any difference, I'm black.
