Queen of All Media conquers your gold, extends reign

Posted by Peter Rugg on Fri, Apr 17, 2009 at 3:09 PM

It'd be forgivable if you rushed to change the channel the next time the latest WeNeedGold.com television spot came on. It is a souless thing, even more offensive for containing a catchy jingle you won't be able to force out of your mind despite its awfulness. But don't change it! Look past that pro-tooled white businessman rapper to the old lady spinning at the turntables. She warms your heart doesn't she? Take in what's only the latest awesome exhibition in a heady career of awesomeness by Kansas City's own Carol Jean Barta.

KKFI 90.1 FM listeners most likely know her as "The Garage Sale Queen," an expert in all things antique and garage sales. She co-hosts the "Anything Goes" radio show with our own Charles Ferruzza. Even before she became a fixture of KC's airwaves people were taking notice of her. According to her KKFI biography, she was voted "Miss Prairie Village" of 1956 before becoming "Cuddles the Weather Girl" for KUDL-AM, then worked at WHB-AM and WDAF-TV. Her IMDB page is an honor roll of direct-to-video horror like "Bloodthirsty Cannibal Demons," "Sorority Babes from Hell." "Prehistoric Bimbos in Armageddon City," and "Where Pigeons Go to Die." It's rumored she created her own receipe for prop vomit.

I sort of love this woman.

I've spotted the businessman rapper in a Thoroughbred Ford. He must need a pickup truck for all the business Carol generates.
