Bishop Finn declares war on behalf of the 'Church Militant'

Bishop Robert Finn declared war on behalf of pro-life activists at last weekend's Gospel of Life Convention.

Finn, of the Kansas City-St. Joseph archdiocese, apparently doesn't care much for abortion rights or gay marriage or contraception or Notre Dame's invitation to President Obama to speak at the campus -- a decision he called "scandalous, discouraging and confusing to many

Catholics."

Finn called himself and his supporters "warriors" and members of the

"Church Militant." But he wasn't calling supporters to arms against their "human enemies" even if the end result is "something

good, even something as significant as the protection of human life."

Finn compared abortion in America to September 11, 2001, the holocaust and any other war. Abortion, of course, is worse.

Finn encouraged his supporters to love their "human enemies." He warned

of those who "may propose 'tolerance' and seem to have a 'live and let

live' approach to all human choices -- even if the choice is not to

'let live,' but actually to 'let die,' or 'let life be destroyed.'" Especially the politicians (but none -- other than Obama -- by name).

Occasionally we still hear an elected official speak of his or her

personal opposition to abortion, while they support the legal right to

an abortion. We should be very clear: Such a person places him or

herself completely OUTSIDE the moral framework, the moral imperative of

Evangelium Vitae and other Church teaching on these issues. They are

NEITHER defending human life against the forces of death, NOR or they

taking steps to build a culture of life. They have abandoned their

place in the citizenship of the Church. Quite simply they have become

warriors for death rather than life.

Such a person who makes a

public stand -- and acts directly - in defense of the right to kill --

endangers their eternal salvation. If you and I support such a person

who has so flatly told us of their intentions to protect a fraudulent

Right to Death, a Right to an Abortion, we make ourselves participants

in their attack on life. We risk our salvation, and we better change.

Finn referenced the "dangers of contraception: to our souls, on

marriages, on our culture, as a preamble to abortion and as a degrading

stain on human love."

Pray for me.

Finn's keynote address is posted on the Catholic Key's blog. Hat tip to Prime Buzz.

Another crazed cleric delaring holy war on us? It's disappointing given that the Catholic Church used to be more responsible, but it's nothing that can't be sorted out with a predator drone!

Do you like hypotheticals from the less than informed? No? Me neither. If you have answers to these questions, please, enlighten us. Otherwise, go quiety back to the Party of Pontius Pilate and read some books. And, while you are at it, pray that ALL of us come to the right decisions in these matters of Life or death.

OK here's a question. Suppose someone like Jon Salvi murders an abortion clinic worker in Kansas City-St. Joseph and says I did it cos the Bishop said we're at war (not very different from what Jon Salvi said). How much guilt would Bishop Finn bear for the murder? On a scale of one to ten, how guilty would the Bishop be?

Now suppose a pro-choicer were to kill Bishop Finn for the same reason--the Bishop said the abortion question is a war, so like a good Pro-Choice warrior I'm killing the enemy of Choice and (now) target of choice, Bishop Finn himself. Would this hypothetical killer be more or less justified in killing the Bishop than the killer in the previous example was justified in killing the abortion doc?

If the Bishop doesn't mean we should be killing each other, why does he use the word WAR?

Is he gonna say, it's ok, it's just a PRAYER war? So if I pray that God will send an angel to clarify things to Bishop Finn's associates by killing him, that's ok too? How about if I do it in a prison, in the block for violent criminals who are awaiting early release? Can I lead them in this prayer? It's just a prayer war.

My sincere, best advice to Bishop Finn is, if there is another act of anti-abortion terror, get yourself and your loved ones out of the USA. Go tour the Vatican. Next time there is anti-abortion terror there will also be anti-right-to-life counterror and you, having declared war, will be a natural target.

Let's see if he or Nauman has the guts to do what he needs to do, excommunicate some of the so-calleed Catholic Polititians who support abortion. Namely Sebelius, Biden, Kennedy, Pelosi.
his statement says they have placed themselves outside the church. How about making it official.

Awesome! I love seeing Catholic Bishops taking a strong stand against abortion. I still can't believe a civilized society would continue to be so barbaric and kill a child while in the womb. But there is some hope. Abortions are decreasing in number.

Keep up the good fight, Bishop Finn.
