Today's PETA protest at the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain was based on lies.
The press release clearly promised "Naked behind a banner that reads, 'Meat's Not Green,' two PETA beauties will shower together at a busy Kansas City location to let consumers know that the best thing they can do for the environment is to go vegetarian." The young women in question were clearly wearing underwear. That might sound like a sexist, mean thing to say, but should PETA be allowed to hype their events based on cheap titillation then chicken out at the last second? Are the animals not worth it?
In the end you probably weren't going to be swayed if you're a meat eater, though it was a good way for PETA to get attention. But from now on -- their facts aside -- it's probably better if we all start receiving their promises with a good dose of skepticism.

MY neighbor rosey harper had all roosters she was raising when i told her it was illegle she moved them. i don't know where, but she suddenly came into money. what do i do?
Yes, PETA knows how to get attention. So did the class clown from my 6th grade. It's almost impossible to take either one very seriously.
I agree that I would be sorely disappointed if I were promised that these beautiful young women were going to be naked in public for me to oggle in the name of animal rights, but with regard to your assertion that meat-eaters would probably not be swayed, if one of the people who took their materials should spare the animals even for one day, then I'm sure these girls would feel it was worth it, and I don't doubt that they had at least that much influence.
PETA takes a lot of criticism for being the attention whores that they are, but I believe that their antics are well-intended. They got my attention. I made fun of them and laughed at them when I was shown the movie Meet Your Meat but it didn't take long for the movie's message to get through to me and I swore off meat forever.
So, yeah, they probably won't be swayed on the spot. But some will try going a day without meat and prove to themselves that it doesn't kill you, and some of those people will have to ask themselves--if we can thrive, even live BETTER lives, without animal proteins, then why not do it? When we know that we're better off without them (as are they without us), what justification can we give for continuing to eat them? I've done it for years and I'm healthier than I was before I swore off meat. I just had to learn a new way of living. I'm so thankful that PETA opened my eyes to it.
When animal advocates maintain that animals matter in their own right, that amounts to acknowledging the possibility that something could be beneficial to us (meat-eating, clothing made from animals skins, entertainment uses, animal testing) but still be morally dubious.
These may be advantages we're not entitled to have at the expense of the animals and that may be wrong for us to seek out and pursue. If so, there may be hard questions about what we must be prepared to give up.
I love the way PETA does it!! They are one of the most clever org.s who know how to get attention. Look at all the stories on the internet, even here no less! You would be surprised at the number of people who are waking up to the horrors of animal issues.....their mission change the world one mind at a time.....so today it is not your mind but believe me others are responding....
This is my rather long winded and indirect contribution to Pro-Test: Friendship, grief, anarchy, fine dining, and random gunfire.
