Just got the police report, and Betsy Webster was more than cited for suspicion of driving under the influence Friday morning. She was arrested.
The report says Webster's silver 2001 Honda Civic rear-ended a parked Lincoln Town Car at 39th and Baltimore, injuring two people. Webster told police that she was driving east on 39th Street when she saw a car stopped in her lane, but it was too late and she hit the parked car.
The officer reported "major damage" to the front of Webster's Civic and "damage" to the back of the Town Car, which was "parked in a parking area."
Webster failed several field sobriety tests and officers described her
breath as giving off a "strong odor" of alcohol, her balance as
"swaying" and pupils as "dilated."
Webster "repeatedly lost her balance while walking and had to use her arms for balance taking them out away from her body." She also failed to turn the correct way after being shown how by the officers. Asked to stand on one leg, Webster "repeatedly put her foot down and used her arms for balance while swaying."
Webster refused a breathalyzer test. She answered several questions at the station, including what she had to eat and when (pretzels and potato chips around 1 or 1:30 a.m.) and how much sleep she'd had the previous day (6-10 hours) but wouldn't say what her occupation was or what she'd been doing during the last three hours.
I e-mailed Webster to see if she wanted to talk about the incident, but she hasn't replied. Kinda ironic that KCTV just aired an investigation about cabbies denying drunk people rides or overcharging for short trips.
Update: Webster's attorney, Kevin Regan, tells me that she has "no comment." Regan also represented former Star columnist, ol' "Three Tires" Rhonda Chriss Lokeman, in her fight to keep her driver's license. Regan got Lokeman back on the road.

Does Betsy really drink or is she on her meds again? Do you notice that sometimes when she is reporting she sounds like a jack hammer and other times she looks like she is going to sleep. What's with her?

ahahahaha i got pulled over at that same intersection for suspicion of a DUI. I passed the field sobriety test and breathalizer and still got arrested.

I used to be one of those channel five socialists on the air. No one at five is a socialist, I can assure you. Everyone at five is an ambulance chaser, as mandated by the managers. The photogs have been driving Blue Crown Vics (all of the news cruisers, sans live trucks) since before you were a rookie cop.
Finally, from the sound of it, I doubt you have the brains to pull off a cohesive surveillance... even if it were handed to you.

Bob you are so right! Betsy spent most of her career being the late breaking investigating girl pointing the microphone and camera at the public. It's nice to see that she is reminded she is human like everyone else. You think Channel 5 has a policy against DUI for it's employees? Doubt it. I'll be waiting at her job with my camera and mirophone in hand.
TV 5 are a bunch of anti police, ambulance chasing socialists. They were driving around in a blue unmarked crown vic once and ruined a surveillance my team was doing on an armed robbery suspect. I agree with the person who stated that too bad reporters won't camp out at her home and ask her a few questions like:
(1) If you are married, what were you doing out so late without your significant other?
(2) If you have children, where were they?
(3). Driving is a priviledge, why did you refuse to submit to a breath test? and since now your license will likely be suspended from this, how do you plan to get to work?
(4) Are you an alcoholic?
Too bad people like this don't get the same treatment they continuously deal out.
I don't think she was leaving the byf concert because those guys promote sober living - actually heard she was at the jonas brothers concert instead.
What does her husband do for a living? Does she have children? Seems like she's on track for some vacation time or maybe the "mommy track."
Funny, I haven't seen any "LIve, Late Breaking, Investigative report on KCTV5. I wonder if they will go to her house and plaster it all over the evening news like they do when police officers get arrested? Yeah right when Hell freezes over.
Why is this considered news? So what if KCTV did a story on cabs that don't pick up drunks?? What does Betsy have to do with that? She wasn't driving a station vehicle and wasn't working at the time of the incident. This just proves the Pitch is not above reporting pointless trashy tabloid news.
They need to arrest whoever cut Bets hair with a butter knife and then combed it with a porkchop. Ive noticed she has been trying a Betty Page meets Lois Lane look and it aint workin for her.
