Scanning through the list of businesses with liquor licenses pending, I noticed an old Lawrence favorite of mine.
the institution born north of the Kaw in 1953, is in the "awaiting
documents" stage of the licensing process. That means I'm in the "awaiting drinking" stage of the process.
The sports bar -- which has locations in Prairie
Village, Blue Valley, Olathe, Shawnee, Overland Park and Lawrence --
would open at 1310 Grand, just north of Vinino. Johnny's has applied for a 3 a.m. and a Sunday license.

yeah... this is the only thing that will save it... local business
There's also "Savvy" a locally-owned coffee and wine bar that just opened on the Southeast corner of 12th and Main. It's a classy place, but it feels more corporate than local, lacking the personal touch of "The Filling Station" or "Westport Coffee House".
This was announced a few weeks ago and reported in print by the Star at the time. But nice discovery by the crack reporters of the Pitch...
It's about dang time. Johnny's are good bars. I thought it was incredibly audacious to put a idiotic Famous Daves down there - like out of the hundreds of BBQ joints in KC, there was a shortage. I went down there last night...there was a glimpse of hope. Beyond the belligerent drunkards one can see the only trace of local business, the hotdog stands.
There's also Peach Tree down there...who knows for how long though.
