Six things to do this holiday weekend

Posted by Crystal K. Wiebe on Fri, May 22, 2009 at 8:59 AM

1. Watch a movie on the library rooftop. Tonight, the annual Off-the-Wall film series at the Central Branch of the Kansas City, Missouri, Public Library kicks off with the John Carpenter cult classic They Live.

2. Eat barbecue! The Great American BBQ Festival at Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone features a whole lotta bands, carnival rides, an eating contest and, oh yeah, a lot of meat slathered in sweet, smoky and spicy sauce. There will be meat enough to last today through Sunday. Also, the URL for the event is really something: thinkbbq.com.

3. Hang out with PezHeads. There's a gathering of Pez collectors (seriously) in room 101 of the Bloch building at UMKC on Saturday. Admission is free.

4. Buy some art. Images Art Gallery is moving out of the Crossroads. Nab something good for 25 percent off between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday.

5. Watch some fireworks. There will be explosions in the sky above Union Station on Sunday night.

6. Sleep in on Monday, 'cause it's Memorial Day, yo, and you pro'lly don't have to work.

We are going to try to go to the Images Art Gallery and grab some art for our offices. Hopefully there is something we like! Thx for the heads up.
