Earlier today, 17-year-old Garrett Matthew Mason appeared in court on first-degree murder charges for the deaths of 14-year-old Kylie M. Leyva and 18-year-old Anne E. Reed. Mason faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.
Police believe Mason fatally stabbed the teenage girls Sunday evening in Nevada, Missouri, 95 miles south of Kansas City. Mason was arrested hours after the girls' bodies were found at Reed's home, 618 North Cedar St. (Mason lives only a few houses away).
Rumors in the tiny town claim Mason had a "hit list." The Springfield News-Leader quotes a probable cause statement saying witnesses saw Mason leave Reed's house "splattered with blood" and one of the girls said Mason had stabbed them.

I don't believe garrett should take the full sentence for this conviction for the simple fact that i am almost positive he was set up. I used to live in Nevada. I moved in august of 08. Garrett Mason was one of my close friends when I lived there. He was one of the sweetest people you ever could meet. He would walk all the way to McDonalds to get me and my friend food. But I have no doubt in my mind that he did this. When Garrett was high he was a totally different person. And he was high most of the time. Kylie Leyva was one of my BEST friends. We were closer than I usually get with people. And she was one of the most loving and caring people on this earth. She loved life and had fun. She did not deserve to die. And Garrett deserves to rot in prison for what he did.

I knew Garrett and both of the girls personaly. Garrett was really sweet to me,we talked very offten we actually live across the street from each other. I guess you could say we knew each other very well. He was and still is one of my best friends. I dont beleive that what he did was right but aslong as he relizes that what he did was wrong then i dont feel the need to not speak to him because of what he did. I love him to peices. As any good friend would say i dont want him to be in jail for along time but i do think he needs some time to sort out his problems. Garrett had some issues with anger and drama, and when he mixed both of those along with drugs you get the result of vilence, which caused more drama. I am very sorry for everybody invovled in this small town crisis.
Although I did not know Garrett or Kylie, I did, however, know Annie. I actually had only met her a year prior to this incident. In the time frame that we did hang out, I saw her in a different light. She was, sadly "skanky". I know the term, may be harsh, but it will validate a point I want to make. Don't judge someone. Yes, he may have in fact done this very very sad crime. I do believe others were involved. I won't mention names, but a lot of people do know who they are. I'm heard from sources that the police believe others were also involved in a little "text messaging brawl".

Garret was one of the few people i consider friends. I have known him since 5th grade. We hung out all the time and talked. I dont believe Garret was plotting any kind of mass murder. I don't know Garrett personally but my best friend and boyfriend was his best friends. I don't think he would have done this if someone wouldn't of pushed him to it. I'm Aaron one of Garrett's best friends. for approximatly 12 years. Well ex-best friends from now. some say that garrett had this planned for a while. it is possible that he did, but i wouldnt believe it just from a rumor there seems to be alot of them goin on with this whole thing. the main reason i have doubt that he planned it is that just a few days earlier in that week garrett, me,and another friend of ours were talking. (i will not release the name due to not knowing if that person would want me to or not.) while we were talking garrett asked me about how my skill as a guitarist was goin. i said im not the best but im improving. he replied well hey man, f your not to busy sometime you should come over and show me some suff. i said sounds good its been a while since we hung out. at this point the bell rang for class to begin.
had he been planning that i dont think he would have invited me over. as it turnd out i had to watch my brother and couldnt go over. some other interesting things. a few days prior to that i saw him in the hallway and ran to talk to him. i imediatly noticed he was high. and as we had conversed so many times before i once again told him he needed to stop useing drugs. and as always he replied " na man you need to start." i said yea i dont think so. then i added "man your gonna end up in prison before your 28" all he said was "na, well see ya later". that was the second to last time i talked to him. unfortunantly from ho it seems to be going i was wright about him going to prison before he is 28. i only thought it would be due to drugs and not murder, even i would never have saw it comeing. but if he had listend to me and another friend pf ours and quite the drugs maybe he wouldnt have done it.
a last added note. about 3 months prior to this whole deal garrett stayed the night at my house. we got in an argument with some gangster wanna-be's from across the street. they called us pussies and said that we wouldnt do nothin (what they meant was wouldnt do anything)the next thing i knew thay backed up real fast and garrett said id just go if i were you. then one of them said oh yea ill just get my bat. but one of the others told him not to and they called the cops claiming that garrett pulled a butterfly knife on them. i had looked and had seen no knife. the police searched garrett and the yard ad the house and found no knife. yet i know that garrett did have a butterfly knife, but it was at his house and not on him. but he stated if i did have a knife i wouldnt hesitate the stab their bitch asses.i was like whatever no you wouldnt. but now as i look back im not so sure maybe he would have. after 12 years of friendship i know that drugs can make someone a totally different person. i just wish he wouldve taken our advice.
