Kramer, as one might suspect, hasn't been SMN's principal for long.
This is his second year in the position. Prior to that, he was the vice
principal, and before that, he was a gym teacher.
World
geography, as previously taught by Scott, was fun. He sees geography as
a means to study culture. "I try to get (the students) to relate to
different cultures around the world -- regional cultures, economic
cultures, ethnic cultures, and age group cultures," Scott says. "I try
to get them to see that their own teenage culture is just as viable a
model for them to understand other cultures." Hence the inclusion of
pop culture sometimes, like with the Homies or references from TV shows
like The Simpsons.
But when Scott complied with the principal's demands and dialed his
syllabus back to by-the-book, district-approved material, his kids
noticed. Parents called the front office and complained to no avail. Hence, the "I SUPPORT MR. SCOTT!"
Facebook group, which Scott says he's had nothing to do with. The group is administered by Scott's daughter Bekah, a
Shawnee Mission North senior who graduated this month. The page
boasts 960 members. Many are current students, others are SMN alumni
who remember Scott's class, and others are fellow teachers. They all want Scott to be free to teach world geography in his wacky but informative way.
Dave Owen, a teacher at East High School in Kansas City, Missouri, who
used to teach with Scott at Southwest High School, wrote a letter to
Kramer that is re-posted on the Facebook site. "I recall at Southwest (students who) would skip all their classes only to attend Mr. Scott's class at the end of the day," Owen wrote. In his letter, he also
recalled Scott's efforts to start a baseball team at Southwest, raising
the team's entire $7,000 budget by encouraging students to go through
old yearbooks and call alumni to ask for donations. "Their response was
overwhelming," Owen wrote. "Mr. Scott went to bat for the inner city
youth and came through."
Scott surmises that principal Kramer has just one goal in mind: to raise SMN student's test scores in the Kansas State Assessments. As a result, teachers are instructed to teach to the test. If there are three questions on the test about China, for example, Scott must spend three weeks on China. But there aren't any test questions on the stuff that Scott's students found engaging in his past classes, like immigrant workers in Los Angeles, migrant farm workers in the Midwest, Irish-American immigration, or India as an ancient religious center.
"What really hurts is, a lot of kids in high school don't like school because of this system," Scott says. "They might achieve and do well in it, but it's also making high school a miserable experience." Schools, in his view, have become "institutions for the glorification of administrators showing that they can raise test scores," Scott says. "But it's not supposed to be about the career advancement of adults. It should be about the education of kids."
Kramer isn't going anywhere, Scott figures. For his part, he hopes that he can affect some positive change if he's allowed to stick around, and if he's fired, he'll contest it. "If I'm considered a whistleblower, I guess that's the price I pay," he says.
But if he pays that price, 960 Facebook friends are gonna have something to say about it.

Read this letter. It looks like the NEA might finally come to the rescue of our beloved Shawnee Mission North.
I know that we parents have written letters and called the board and been stonewalled.
Good luck and Godspeed NEA. Thanks to The Pitch for sounding the alarm.
By the way, Mr. Scott is still being put under pressure by Kramer and still fighting for the students.
We here in the NEA-Shawnee Mission office have received an increased number of concerns expressed by our members at North during the first month of school. These concerns include professional employees who have 6 teaching assignments being asked to present additional curriculum during an AYP seminar, a lack of equity in the number of classes teachers are assigned, possible infringements upon contractually agreed to planning time, and unreasonable requests for lesson plan documentation, along with possible bullying by some members of building administration.
Due to the severity and complexity of these issues, Nancy Fritz, NEA-SM President, and I will be holding a meeting on Thursday, September 23rd at 7:00 A.M. in Room 103 at North. We hope to be able to review these issues and let you know how they are being addressed, as well as provide members with an opportunity to ask questions and discuss additional concerns.
We know you are very busy and have many obligations, but we hope you will take the time to attend this meeting and help us gather information so we can be as effective as possible in addressing the issues that are developing in your building.
In the meantime, please know that both Nancy and I are available for individual consultation should you have any immediate concerns or questions. Please feel free to give us a call at 913-268-4005 or email us at hj.heistand@knea.org or nancy.fritz@knea.org.
Thank you for your continued membership in NEA-SM, your diligent work to make the students at North successful, and the professionalism you show every day in the duties you perform.
Best wishes,

I have known Ned Scott twenty-some years and I, along with many others, know what an amazing man he is and how many lives he has touched and influenced during his teaching career. Ned and Jennifer were our neighbors for many years, and I couldn't think of any other couple I'd rather live next door to. Their son and daughter are wonderful, fantastic, young people who have greatly and obviously benefited from their parents' intelligence, instruction, and caring ways. Our own children have spent countless hours in their home, and we will always have the utmost respect and gratitude for Ned and Jennifer. I can only imagine the incredible number of students who have benefited from Mr. Scott's teachings, generous displays of caring, and his unwavering commitment to all of his students. Long live Mr. Ned Scott and everything he does for all of those lucky enough to be called his students!
~Karin Bohlken
Unfortunately, I never had the chance to have Mr. Scott as a teacher but, as everyone has said before and i confirm once again, I had the chance to develop a "hall" relationship with him. He is a wonderful man and I always enjoyed hearing the stories from my friends about his class. I had to imagine him kind of the way i think of Mr Richards, which I'm pretty sure left for the same reasons. Regrettably, I had most of the teachers that conformed to the AYP curriculum and I did not enjoy those classes. Never once in those classes did I walk in feeling like I wanted to learn. But, in Mr. Richards class I truly did. I wish I had had the opportunity to experience Mr. Scott's class. Thank you Mr. Scott and Mr Richards, and all the other teachers at North that really teach and make North what it is. They do not raise students that only know the answer to the question, but students that know the answers beyond the questions.
This is probably one of the saddest things I have ever read, especially considering the fact that I am going into the Secondary Education program at Rockhurst in a couple semesters. I must say that out of any class I ever took throughout the entirety of SMN- Mr. Scott's class may be the only one that relinquished any valuable information that spilled over into college at all. The only one. Not my 4 years of AP English. Not the Calculus or Chemistry. It was Mr. Scott's World Geography that I took at a Freshman and revisited at a senior TA. It truly taught me to think in a different way that my current professors are trying so hard to get their students to do now. I still have my huge packet with the cover from 2004. My only fear used to be that I wouldn't be able to be half as remarkable as Mr. Scott was. Apparently I have a lot more to look out for.
WHEN I ATTENDED smn HIGH SCOOL MR. sCOTT WAS
1. ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHERS AS WELL AS MANY OTHER STUDENTS FAVORITE IVE GRADUATED AND UPON MEETING PAST STUDENTS EVEN WAY BEFOR ME IVE HAD A COUPLE PEOPLE ASK does MR. SCOTT STILL TEACH THERE HE WAS THE BEST TEACHER, WITCH IS A COMMENT THAT YOU WILL HEAR FROM ALL HIS STUDENTS BECAUSE MR. SCOTT ISNT JUST A TEACHER HES A FRIEND AND A DARN GOOD ONE!! AT THE END OF MY JR. YEAR I HAD GOTTEN IN A TERIBLE ACCEDENT WITCH THE DOCTORS SAID I ONLY HAD FROM A 0-4 PERCENT CHANCE OF EVEN LIVING THROUGH THE NIGHT AND SAID I WOULD NEVER AWAKE FROM MY COMA. FINNALLY AFTER 7 WEEKS I DID AWAKE AND THEN AFTER A FEW YEARS OF REHAB I RETURENED TO NORTH TO GRADUATE AND MR. SCOTT STILL BEING A WONDERFULL FRIEND TO ME HELPED MOTIVATE ME WHENEVER HE COULD TO WORK HARD. A CLASS I TOOK WAS FORENSICS AND WROTE AN INFORMATIVE SPEECH FOR A CONTEST AND BEING THE GREAT GUY THAT HE IS HE WELCOMED ME INTO ALL OF HIS CLASSES TO GIVE MY SPEECH TO STUDENTS TO SEE HOW THEY WOULD TAKE IT AND LEARN FROM IT , MR. SCOTT IS WITHOUT A DOUT ONE OF THE GREATEST TEACHERS IVE EVER HAD AND AS WELL A TEACHER THAT I WILL REMEMBER FOREVER.
IN MY OPINOIN THIS MAN DOESNT DESERVE ALL THE HASTLE HES GETTING BUT INSTEAD A TEACHERS REWARD FOR THE OUTSTANDING DIFFRENCE HE MAKE ON THE LIVES OF EVERY ONE OF HIS STUDENTS

People should pay attention to Ned Scott's situation since it entails a serious problem, namely the pressure imposed on teachers to get their students through exams. This pressure comes from political quarters, both on the right and left, that want visible, quantitative results to a situation that won't be improved in any basic way simply by higher test scores. We send our kids to school, not to pass tests but to learn how to write, think and analyze. Passing exams and learning these critical skills are not the same thing.

The Climb
I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"
Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on
'Cause there's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody's gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!
Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa
I also teach at Shawnee Mission North and I am pleased that the inadequate school supervision practices of Principal Kramer have been brought to public notice.
Mr. Kramer has used fear and intimidation in the wake of this national economic recession to cower trained teaching professionals to abandon against their better judgment, their proven methods of what works in a classroom in favor of methods that are dull, rigid and ineffective.
Here are just two examples of this sterile methodology.
First, Mr. Kramer took it upon himself to change the meaning of Norths proud, inclusive, unifying one index finger salute. At the start of the last school year, he dictated that the raising of the index finger was now to mean stop talking.
Mr. Kramer ordered ALL teachers to start each class with this new gesture and created a check list used by his vice principals to document teachers who did not open class with his version of this salute.
Next, Mr. Kramer demanded that all teacher use the valuable first few minutes of class, (what teachers call the anticipatory set,) to assign silent bell work. This often meant completing a drill and practice style worksheet covering material already taught. This was to be done in every class, everyday, and by ALL teachers. Again, this order was to be enforced by vice principals with checklists that were to document who was raising the finger and issuing the silent bell work to start class and who wasnt.
Teachers who wavered or deviated from raising the finger and issuing board work as a daily, uniform, anticipatory set were labeled as non team players and weak members of the group. Mr. Kramers motto was that everyone needs to get in the wheelbarrow with his methods or they would be advised to think about employment elsewhere.
Anyone familiar with this model in education (and in this economy) knows the unfortunate result of such methods. Publically, teachers and subordinate level administrators were praising Mr. Kramer to his face to protect their paychecks, but behind his back, (and with contempt,) functioning to hasten his exit date.
Mark Twain once wrote, "...the person that had took a bull by the tail once had learnt sixty or seventy times as much as a person that hadn't, and said a person that started in to carry a cat home by the tail was getting knowledge that was always going to be useful to him, and warn't ever going to
grow dim or doubtful..."
Teachers know a lot more about how to open a class, than someone who reads about how to open a class." Class room teachers are the ones with the experience of holding the cat by the tail, and they know what works. Sadly, our former gym teacher and current principal, Mr. Kramer is the leader who reads the book, and then decides that what he has read is certainty. Mr. Kramers type of certainty is not good for the students, teachers, parents and stakeholders who see American Education as a cornerstone of democracy and enlightenment.
Mr. Scott was one of the only Great things about North ... one of two teachers i'll never forget.
Mr. Kramer don't be an ass.
Student '04
I taught with Ned at Southwest in KCMO and am thrilled to see he is still inspiring kids as he did 25 years ago.
Ned, you can always come back to KC and we will welcome you with open arms. But our administrators suck too. But then you probably know that.
This is a total loss to Shawnee Mission North. Mr. Scott was easily the best teacher to teach incomming freshman. He made you feel at ease when you walked in always having some music before class started. He believed every child should have the opportunity to hear weather your in the front or the back, which is why he talked through a microphone. His methods were fantastic and class attendance was always very good. Kramer is not a good principal. Not only did he fire Mr. Scott but rumor is he also wants to change the colors of SMN. Looks like the wrong guy was fired. Whatever school gets Mr. Scott will be lucky to have him.
Jerad Sackuvich Class of 2007
Mr. Scott's out of the box teaching should be an example of how to teach, not of how to get reprimanded by a clueless administration. SMN has always had trouble with truancy- good luck in getting students to class when the teachers (and in turn students), are smothered by controlling, restrictive, narrow-minded authorities with backwards strategies to meet AYP. Confining students to their desks, filling out meaningless worksheets, teaching with dull and ineffective textbooks, and being repressed by what are supposed to be "role models" are obstacles that students must get past to perform at their potential. SMN administration needs to seriously rethink what they are trying teach their students because as of now, much of what they are learning is to have a one-track mind and facts they won't remember in a year. SMN students deserve to learn from teachers who challenge their perspectives, spark interests, connect classroom learning to real experiences, push imaginations, think critically and creatively, and inspire and spark passion in their students. I hope teachers will find ways around the current restrictions and keep fighting for what they know is in their student's best interest.
Unfortunately this is not the only event that has shown SMN's administration's carelessness and ill motives but I am extremely pleased by the response to this particular issue. SMN authorities need to start listening to their frustrated students and teachers if a change is going to take place. After all, students and teachers are the ones that are most affected by administrations decisions so they should have more autonomy!
Material Success: Ability, Attitude, & Opportunity. Mr. Scott provided this for every student he has taught.
Ability: He gives students the positive encouragement need to get through the class. He is always available to listen & give you advice on subjects that may be affecting your life.
Attitude: If the attitude of a Student is one that doesnt like school or hates going, He changes this probably without even trying. He makes the atmosphere in his class one that can change the attitudes of peers sitting around you.
Opportunity: During his class at the Beginning of the year the class elects a Class President, Vice President, Secretary, & various other positions to take charge within the class. Everyone is giving the opportunities needed to succeed in this class.
The Lesson Plans: The lesson plans are book related, their just outside the box. As well as more interesting. Each lesson involves Critical thinking. My Favorite Lesson taught in his class was the Grapes of Wrath lesson. The big packet at first was intimidating but by watching the movie and reflecting on each question the packet became a breeze.
Critical thinking is purposeful and reflective judgment about what to believe or what to do in response to observations, experience, verbal or written expressions, or arguments. Critical thinking involves determining the meaning and significance of what is observed or expressed, or, concerning a given inference or argument, determining whether there is adequate justification to accept the conclusion as true.
Mr. Scotts Class freshmen year was the perfect & only class that truly helped out the transition between middle & high school. I thank you Mr. Ned Scott for being a Positive Teacher, Always doing what is best for the students, & for teaching me how to critical think, Ive used it in every class I took in high school after freshmen year.

Mr. Scott is a great teacher. I can still remember lessons from his class four years ago. Not only does he teach kids about culture, he teaches them about themselves.
I remember once in his class, we opened the text books beneath our seats to the section on Africa. He pointed to the picture of a woman working in a field with a baby strapped to her back. She was smiling and looked happy. The book never seemed to mention the extreme realities Africans face. And he told us that was why he did not use the text book.
Rock on Mr. Scott

It speaks worlds that he has so many students that have a passion for anything, and still retain schoolwork long after the class is over.
I see a passion here that is unrivaled by any passion that Kramer could have possibly brought to students. Good luck Mr. Scott.
I'd like to mention that I was a SMW graduate who had Kramer as an administrator. I don't recall any actual improvements or any impact he made on me as a student, or the school as a whole. Obviously he has no passion for actually developing students minds and open their eyes to how amazing learning can be.
Shame on you, Richard Kramer.
Mr. Scott is one of the best teachers i have ever had. i would always sharpen the pencils for him so students could have pencils to write with. he taught me how cultures mix and how they make cities and towns unique. Mr. Scott would tell me everyday how important i was to the class when i sharpened the pencils. he didnt just want to get one persons answer to a question, he wanted to include other thoughts that students had. i learned more about the world and how peoples actions influence it.
To me Mr. Scott was the best teacher and friend anybody could have. Because of Mr. Scott i have a better understanding of how things work.
UPDATE
The number's gone up: there's 986 members in the "I SUPPORT MR. SCOTT!" Facebook group as of now. Also, just to clear up any confusion: Mr. Scott has not been fired, as of yet. He has been subjected to administrative actions throughout the year that could lead to termination, which is why his supporters are concerned.
I hate the way the school is run now, just like Mr. Scott said. It sucks when all the school cares about is test scores. We spend a great deal of time in most classes studying for the state assessments. Which takes away our time to learn about valuable things. All the curriculum is changing, and is beginning to be really boring. Because teachers can't teach in their own way. It's mostly all just bookwork. And that's not the way I, along with many others, don't learn that way. Which means not everybody is getting the same education. I think anybody and probably mostly everybody can learn from the way Mr. Scott teaches.
Find Out Who Your Friends Are (Thanks Tracy)
Run your car off the side of the road
Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere
Or get yourself in a bind lose the shirt off your back
Need a floor, need a couch, need a bus fare
This is where the rubber meets the road
This is where the cream is gonna rise
This is what you really didn't know
This is where the truth don't lie
You find out who your friends are
Somebody's gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas, get there fast
Never stop to think 'what's in it for me?' or 'it's way too far'
They just show on up with their big old heart
You find out who your friends are
Everybody wants to slap your back
wants to shake your hand
when you're up on top of that mountain
But let one of those rocks give way then you slide back down look up
and see who's around then
This ain't where the road comes to an end
This ain't where the bandwagon stops
This is just one of those times when
A lot of folks jump off
{Chorus}
When the water's high
When the weather's not so fair
When the well runs dry
Who's gonna be there?
{Chorus}
You find out who your friends are
Mr. Kramer is clearly a control freak.
Mr. Scott is the exact opposite, one of his quotes and teaching philosophies that I remember well is: be something you're not.
The entire administrative staff at SMN practices abuse of power over the students.
It's a great gig if you can get it(assistant principal). Over $82k/yr and no class to teach. Adult day care.
They have nothing to do except harass the students on stupid policies. From lunch privileges to parking lot control.
Mr. Scott is the exact opposite of what they stand for so they think he must go.
Morons.
Mr Kramer is the reason I have always said FUCK school.
Mr. Scott is not only a teacher, but a man of inspiration. When I was in his freshman geography class in '02, I was ready to drop out of school... I wanted nothing to do with education. I felt like I was stupid, and like I could never achieve much. Mr. Scott was the one who believed in me, and made me feel like I was needed in this world. I know I am not the only one who he inspired. Mr. Scott is the BEST teacher at that school, and if Kramer feels that the schools test scores will be better because Scott is gone, well he has another thing coming. Just an idea of petition, but if Mr. Scott gets fired, I think the serious flu will be coming around on test days... then what would the scores look like?
Mr. Scott--- Rock On! You know you are an amazimg man, and no jealous person like Kramer can bring you down!
<3 Crystal Smith
I never had Mr. Scott but whenever i would talk to people in the hallway who just came from his class, they would only tell me how awesome he is. All Kramer cares about is test scores. I read in the mission he's trying to take away things like the vending machines and even SEMINAR. Apparently all of the teachers know that in two years he's going to change our block scedualing into all T-days and take away seminar. If he wants those precious test scores, then we need our seminar to get work done!
Mr. Scott was an outstanding teacher, i am an aluni from 3004. i wish Mr. Scott the best of luck and if there is anything i can do to help feel free to ask (nacrabilliardjunky@hotmail.com)
i LOVED! mr. scotts class! he made it fun, he was way diff than anyother teacher. i use to look forward to his class. the next year i try'd to be a labby for his class. and i will try again next year. if every teacher would teach like he does than i bet students wouldnt fall asleep in there class's and would want to go to them unstead of skippin like most of us to, cough cough like english. if mr. scott goes for the wrong reason im sure the students who had him will make hell for the school if not i know i will be. i have to say he was most of our fav. teachers there. he got you into what you was learing about not just here, heres a book now read. he kinda seem'd like he really wanted the students to want to learn not to force them to because the have to.
Mr. Scott was the best teacher i had at shawnee mission north. i skipped alot of my classes but not once did i skip mr scotts class. if he gets fired u better believe that ill be up at north protestin it
Mr. Scott has been the best teacher of all times. I NEVER fell asleep in his class Never. That's beacuse the way he teach was always intresting. I don't understand why Kramer is doing this. I used to have Mr.Scott in World Geography and in seminar. he's someone you can talk to and he would be there sitting with you listenting Mr. Scott is like a dad to everybody because he understands people and what they go threw. you can never talk to Kramer about your problems because he would just sit there and won't care. Mr.Scott is the best teacher out there and I don't understand why they would do something dumb to such a WONDERFUL teacher.
A fluke led to my enrollment in Ned Scott's Geography class; I was a transfer student that had already taken the senior course required by North freshman year at my previous high school. Therefore, I was a senior taking a freshman course. Even then the class was enriching. Like Jesse said earlier, ten years down the line, he will be the teacher I will remember from my years at SMN.
i was in mr. scott's class back in 2002, and he was by FAR my favorite teacher at SMN. i actually loved going to his class and seeing what new (and kind of weird) teaching lessons he had planned. that's what made his class worth going to though. i think it really sucks that he has been forced to completely change his teaching methods. i don't know this principal, but maybe if he would just take some time to see how many students actually respond very well to his alternate way of teaching, and how he relates his teaching to all his students, maybe he wouldn't be so quick to judge! and not only is he an amazing teacher, but he's also just a really good person to talk to .. about anything. basically, he's just an awesome person and i can't believe that he's being put through all this! and anyone that has had the privilege of being in his class would agree.
Ned Scott had a huge impact on my high school career and i feel blessed to have had him as a friend and teacher... Looks like you are getting your comments Nadia. Again and Again Thank you so much for doing this, I appreciate the favor.
Mr. Scott is a good teacher, I did not have him in class but I often did talk to him in the halls with other teachers such as Mr. Collins and Dr. Farson. Good way of learning new information is taking information we already know and applying it to what we are learning. So what if a teaching assignment links The Simpsons cartoons or Homies, at the end of the day if a student has gained from it then thats what counts. Picking on an individual for being creative and making students become more involved in their learning is terrible. I would say more power to Mr. Scott for being his own teacher and getting students involved. If the students are learning and enjoying his class I do not see why the principle is picking on him.
i cant beleive kramer is pullin this stunt! Mr. Scott, u r my favourite teacher, u were last year and u always will be. honestly, im gonna miss ya! u actually made the class interesting, u didnt teach by the book but one time. u always went on the internet and pulled different things up for us to see that you knew at least one of us could relate to. c ya around Mr. Scoot!
Mr. Scott was a good teacher i didnt have him but i could hear him. he was my softball coach. he made me mad at times but we always have fun. i had a friend in that class and she said that she hasn't been wanting to go to a class in a long time but that class i love. so he is one of the best at north. and i will get the whole softball team to back that up!
Mr. Scott is by far the best teacher at north and a great person, good luck Scott!
I went to SMN and had Mr. Scott, he is such an amazing teacher, I remember noodle cup day which was always a hit. And when he uses the microphone that just alone always made my day because who else beside Mr. Collins uses a microphone in class.
I still have my big packet of papers that we did through out the whole year, you guys who have also had him know what I'm talking about, that sucker is thick.
See this is what I love about Mr. Scott his teaching skills are so unique from everyone else and thats just who he is, you can't force someone to do something just because you have a higher rank or just because you don't like what they are doing, that is childish.
They should just leave him alone, if it was such a big deal then they would have done something about it along time ago don't you think?
Sincerely,
Jennifer GO MR. SCOTT YOU ROCK!!!
I just want to say that I'm so glad to have graduated this year. Kramer is slowly turning North into hell for the students. Unfortunately, i never had the opportunity to have Mr. Scott as a teacher, but everytime i wore a "Led Zeppelin" hoody, or a "Beatles" t-shirt, Mr. Scott would always point and comment on it. Everyone i talked to had nothing but great things to say about him. He may have had an unorthodox method of teaching, but that's what made it stick. It was out of the box, something different from all of our other classes that were already strictly bookwork. I'm ashamed that my alma mater is going to allow this brand-new principal to get rid of one of the best teachers roaming the halls.
Sincerely,
Jake
I've never been in one of Mr. Scott's classes, to my apparent misfortune. I did spend my freshman year having to hear from my friends taking taking his class was how AWESOME it is. According to my friends, the Homies and Simpson lessons were more educational than any they'd had in other classes at North. I hear Mr. Kramer wants Mr. Scott to stop teaching these lessons because they do not fit the curriculum. There are an awful lot of Simpsons episodes, and i'm sure at least one of them would fit this rather constricting set of guidelines Mr. Kramer wants to follow.
While i've never had Mr. Scott for a class, I did have the pleasure of meeting him sophomore year, when i joined the Combo Club. Not only does Mr. Scott teach the kids of Combo Club profoundly useful lessons for playing in bands; he has tought all of us to be more self-confident.
Lastly, let's all remember what the halls at school were like before Mr. Kramer came along. He has most definitely brought improvements to North. In his first two years at our school, there has been a definite decrease in the noticeable amount of bullying that goes on. For all his accomplishments in his as of now 2-year term at our school; the fact remains that changing Mr. Scott's conduct in his own classroom, when it keeps students attending class, is an ir-reedeemable failure on Kramer's part. Mr. Scott has my full support.
It's not the fact that he doesn't stick with the curriculum, it's just how he teaches...if he taught according to the curriculum but in his own style, he would still receive letters from Kramer. That's just unfair. To me, Mr.Scott is one of the best teachers in the school, if he leaves, North will be seriously boring.
just wanted to say Mr. Scott is the best, He's always had a way of making each and every student feel welcomed he taught me and my younger brother and i dont think there was a day of my younger brothers freshman year he missed because he looked forward to scott's class and now a sophomore not so hot.
but as far as me being in his class ya we did some pretty crazy things but when it came down to working he knew how to make evey kid work and all i have to say is hes one of a kind and north wouldnt be north with out MR.SCOTT
