This afternoon, the group pushing the recall of oversized novelty Mayor Mark Funkhouser will ask the city clerk to recount the more than 21,000 signatures -- and after an exhausted sigh, she'll probably agree --  and then they'll pray that 129 more valid signatures.

Spokesman Harris Wilder says:

"The City Clerk and her office have been wonderful throughout this recall campaign and we appreciate their hard work. Today we are asking both for a recount and for written guidance as to how such a recount will be conducted. In the initial count, the 'regular folks' were short by 129 signatures, out of over 21,000 submitted. Obviously, this situation calls for a careful recount of all of the Petition signatures. We are confident that after a fair and accurate recount, we will have the necessary signatures to recall this Mayor."

5,000 invalid signatures? That's a lot of I.P. Freelys and Craven Morecocks.

The Council Members are a disgrace to Kansas City. They behave like rude, irresponsible and selfish juvenile delinquents.

I think Mayor Funkhouser might have had more success if Council Members concentrated more on doing their job and less on what the Mayor's wife is doing.

The Council members give me one other reason to regret choosing Kansas City to be my home. I REALLY WISH they would grow up.
