The dump the Funk crew is threatening to take the recall recount to court if the Kansas City Council doesn't tell the city clerk to do the recount. The recall committee hired attorney Brett Shirk yesterday "to examine and pursue all available legal remedies to force" the election boards in Platte and Clay counties and Kansas City to do a recount. Here's the word from recall spokesman Harris Wilder:
"While we remain hopeful that the City Council will take action to order a recount within Kansas City, we fully expect to have to file a lawsuit to get all three Election Boards to hold a recount. To that end, we have engaged Brett Shirk as our special counsel. Brett is an accomplished and well-known civil rights lawyer and we have complete confidence that he will achieve justice for the Committee and the people of this great City."Shirk is the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union.

While I'm sympathetic to your viewpoint, Derrick, I can't really fault them using any and all methods at their disposal, fair or not. That's the example our leaders are setting, and what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
For instance, our leaders decided some time back that a separate legal system for children was just too restictive of their ability to gin up lynch mobs against underage offenders. Now any time following the juvenile rules would be inconvenient, they can unilaterally invoke adult status.
Another prime example would be the KC Council's decision to overrule the public vote on light rail. Fuck those voters - they don't know what the hell they're doing anyway, so why should we have to listen to them?
Under the circumstances, only a damn fool would refrain from using every weapon and tactic at his or her disposal. That's what they'd do to you - why shouldn't you return the favor?
So, these people are dismantling the democratic process and they are going to waste our city's money with these lawsuits??
Yeah, they have a better Kansas City in mind.
We have a process, and when you don't get your way, you can't just change the process. Grow the fuck up.
