Kansas City police have made an arrest in connection with Sunday's homicide at 35th and Agnes.
Jackson County prosecutors charged Dshawn L. Marchbanks with
second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a
weapon Wednesday.
Police found 26-year-old Eric Taylor shot in the driver's seat of a red 1993 Ford Thunderbird Sunday. Taylor was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
According to court records, a witness told police that Taylor pulled his Thunderbird up next to a green 1999 Ford Expedition at 3511 College and asked three men known as "Lumpy," Streets" and another man "What's up?"
"Streets" then allegedly fired a rifle twice into Taylor's car, striking him. Taylor drove north on College to 35th Street before stopping in the intersection
The witness told police that she was in the SUV and called the
vehicle's owner after the shooting. The SUV's owner told the witness
that Taylor and "Streets," the alleged shooter, had an earlier
confrontation.
Police say "Streets" is Dewayne E. Patterson.
The owner of the SUV told police that she loaned her SUV to her
step-son, D'Shawn Marchbanks," and "Streets," also known as Dewayne E.
Patterson. The men were supposed to give the first witness a ride to
College. The owner of the SUV told police that Patterson was "feuding"
with Taylor over an incident two weeks prior in which Taylor kicked
Patterson out of the SUV owner's home.
Court records say Marchbanks told police that he was driving the
Expedition and witnessed the shooting and then sped away from the
scene. Marchbanks told police that he dropped Patterson off at his
house and then went home.
Update (5:08 p.m., Wednesday, June 24): Marchbanks is the cousin of homicide victim Raheem C. Marchbanks, who was shot and killed on June 8. Police say there is not link between the killing of Raheem Marchbanks and the killing of Eric Taylor.
* Kansas City police released photos of "persons of interest" in a different case and mistakenly linked them to this case.
