Working Americans have a few opportunities to express confused outrage at the government this holiday weekend.
Tomorrow at 1 p.m., a freedom rally/tea party will be held at the Center for God, Family and Country in Lee's Summit. On July 4 at 9 a.m., a rally for responsibility will take place along Highway 45 in Parkville.
The tea parties staged across the U.S. on April 15 protested government spending, particularly the $789-billion stimulus package. Of course, the "taxed enough already" crowd might want to look at their pay stubs as they prepare their slogans and banners for the festivities this weekend. Chances are, they're taking home more money, not less.
Upon passage of the stimulus bill, the Treasury Department began directing employers to reduce the amount of tax being withheld. President Obama said at the time a typical family could expect to take home at least $65 more every month.
Tea partiers also insist the government needs to be more fiscal responsibility. It's true. The government can't keep cutting taxes and increasing spending
Of course, President George W. Bush's tax cuts inflated the deficit in a major way. But without a media apparatus to egg them on, few white folks took to the streets in anger over that bit of feel-good math.

I can't speak for the (snicker) tea-baggers, but personally, that makes me MORE angry, not less. You see, I remember that "reduce the amount of tax being withheld" horseshit from the first time it was pulled, during Poppy Bush's administration. That year, my wife and I went from either owing a small amount or getting a small refund to owing over two thousand dollars in Federal tax.
Better put that "extra" money in the bank so you'll have it when the bastards show up wanting it back at tax time next year. And any time it appears the government is going to give you something, keep your hand on your wallet.
