The mystery of why so many people in Cameron have brain tumors may be coming closer to an answer. The Environmental Protection Agency will share the findings of its study at a meeting on the campus of Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
KMBC Channel 9 reports that recent EPA tests found low levels of Chromium 6 in the soil. But they weren't at harmful levels.
In April, a lawsuit filed with the help of Erin Brockovich blames sludge containing high levels of cancer causing hexavalent chromium from Prime Tanning Corp. of St. Joseph, which was given to farmers to use as fertilizer.
Since 1996, more than 70 people in Cameron have been diagnosed with brain tumors.
