Early Tuesday morning, shots fired into an apartment in 500 block of Gillis didn't injure anyone, although there were people in the apartment, Kansas City police say.

On the way to the apartment shooting, officers met a man in a black truck who they say may have been hit by a shotgun pellet. His injuries were minor.

Then came another shooting call. This one -- a man shot by a homeowner -- was in the 500 block of Troost.

Police say a homeowner heard noises outside and then saw a man with a shotgun running near his home. The armed homeowner told the man to drop his weapon. Instead, the man with the shotgun allegedly threatened the homeowner. The homeowner shot him, and the man is at a local hospital in serious condition.
