Hot topic among Royals fans this weekend was the "ban" levied by the club against Rany Jazayerli, who pens Rany on the Royals and also hosts a Royals heavy radio show on WHB 810. Jazayerli went into the Royals doghouse for a column calling for the head of trainer Nick Swartz. A never ending string of injuries led Jazayerli to the conclusion. The team wasn't happy, and Jazayerli claimed they "banned" him.
"Let's just say you won't hear anyone from the front office on my radio show anytime soon," he wrote on July 2. "I was just informed last night that I've been blacklisted by the team. That's right: I've been banned by the Royals! The way this team is playing, I'm not sure if the Royals are trying to punish me or reward me."
The Royals cut Jazayerli's access to the team, and also threatened to do the same for any other radio program that had him on as a guest, Jazayerli wrote.
Deadspin picked up the story. And then it was all over just as quickly as it had started. Jazayerli wrote:
I freely admit that the Royals are well within their rights to snub my radio show if they don't like what I'm saying. But there's a big difference between passively resisting my show and actively trying to sabotage my career. Now that the latter possibility is off the table, we're cool. I don't think I'll be dining with Dayton Moore anytime soon, but I'll get over my disappointment eventually.
The Star's Sam Mellenger was being nice when he called the Royals' reaction "overly sensitive." It's more pettiness from the thin-skinned organization. Just ask Bob Fescoe and Rhonda Moss.
