Federal government wants to pile bad on bad at the Bannister Federal Complex

Depending on who you talk with, either the Bannister Federal Complex is either an "ideal" site for the federal government to dump store thousands of tons of mercury waste or a development-killing, really, really bad idea (just ask council members John Sharp and Ed Ford or Congressman Emanuel Cleaver). The plant is already a toxic nightmare (according to the Star), "polluted with cancer-causing materials such as petroleum products, beryllium, radiation waste and PCBs."  Barring a clean up of that mess -- and it won't come cheap -- the site isn't going to be getting any new development. Until then, watch out for the ripped guy with the mop.
