Summer isn't quite over, yet. The good news for folks in KCK is the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village waterpark finally opened Wednesday evening.
The Schlitterblog says the waterpark's official "sneak peek" opening of "13 signature Schlitterbahn attractions encompassing more than 24 slides and chutes" for a discount price starts at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Oceans of Fun just got a powerful enemy.

I have been to the New Braunfels and Padre parks and they are beyond Awesome!! I don't care about the dirt as long as the rides are open! I am heading there with my family on Monday and will be there open to close, rain or shine. I can see some doubts if you haven't been to one of the other parks so trust me Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will be a success and is not just a splash in the pan (excuse the pun). For those who think it's expensive buy the 2 day pass. It's only about $20 per day that way and you don't have to use it 2 days in succession you can come back any time later that same season. I personally am still holding out hope that a discounted season pass will be available this year. I will make the hour drive several times. It's well worth it! Congrats Schlitterbahn owners and THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING KANSAS CITY FOR YOUR NEW PARK!!!!!
@ Courtney, Thanks for the report. Glad you had a good time there. Not knocking it, just saying what I saw on the cover of the Star this morning. Looked a little odd.
Have you guys even been to the park yet? I was there today and it's anything but horrible. What you see from the street isn't everything...keep in mind that pools are at ground level and go down...not up. The park is almost finished and I didn't even notice that not all the rides were open. I heard a rumor today that the Storm Blaster is going to open any day. I got in for $19.99 today and even got a $10 coupon to bring back later. Schlitterbahn was a total break from the hot sun today and my family loved it!! Don't knock it til you try it.
@jjskck -- Did you see the picture of a lifeguard sitting next to a Bobcat on the Star's front page? Seems like a liability issue.
I still wonder why they chose to open in its current state. It looks horrible...and there's only another 7 weeks in the "swim season".
