James Ragsdale died from injuries sustained in a weekend shooting, KSHB Channel 41 reported Tuesday.

KSHB

says Ragsdale -- the grandson of Kansas City School board member, Helen

Ragsdale -- was removed from life support on Sunday and his organs were

donated.

The Kansas City Star reported that Ragsdale was shot in his driveway in the 4300 block of Flora Avenue early Saturday morning.

The Star gives this account: Ragsdale and two other men were sitting in a BMW in a driveway when two vehicles pulled into the driveway behind the BMW around 3 a.m. A gunman fired shots into the BMW, critically injuring Ragsdale and wounding the other men in the car. The driver of the BMW (who may have been the "intended target" in possible gang retaliation) was shot in the legs.

KSHB uses the photo on the right, which is also Ragsdale's profile picture on his MySpace page.

Update (11:48 a.m., Wednesday, July 22): Just got the police report. There are a few more details. When police arrived, Ragsdale was "unresponsive."

"This all started at Club Zen," another victim told police but refused to "say anything else about how it started."

Another witness "was uncooperative and would not give a statement."

Meanwhile, Ragsdale was bleeding from the head.

I've been knowing James for over 20+ years, grew up on the same block. Whoever made that disrespectful ass comment, didn’t really know James at all!  This was my dude, a true friend whom I can say I’ve had the pleasure of living and laughing together through both youth and adult years.  What kind of retard would put some ish on a posting of such a tragedy.  If you’re from the hood then unfortunately we have all lost loved ones, friends and family but this does not give you the reason to be so ignorant.  Your ignorance is why we have so much death and until you appreciate and love life as well as each other I see no end.  James my dude I know this posting is a year old, just letting you know homie, your never forgotten and always will be missed!

I was the future Mrs James Ragsdale and we had 5 kids together. I want all of Kansas City to know this was not his issue he was taking from us over some senseless mess. If you dont have NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT JAMES RAGSDALE then don't say anything at all. He is truely missed by his family and friends. LOVE ALWAYS Mrs James Ragsdale.

For the person making a negative comment, you should not post negative words. You are typical of angry people that live in KC. Stand and do something about your loss. James was a humble person who cared about others. You don't know him.

James was my cousin and for the person before me saying all this stuff about nobody cared about his relatives..... Well, guess what? You should have got up and done something about it. James had nothing to do with the situation that killed him.

James was my cousin, a good decent guy. We were the same age, and this news absolutely broke my heart. After countless baseball games and the throwing on and off of catcher's gear. I love you man, my heart goes out to you Phyllis, I don't really have the words right now. James, say hi to Paw Paw for me, I am sure you are side by side with Elsie, Tommy and Lenny, we ALL loved you and we will continue to.

Your cousin.

Herb.

I really miss my brother and will struggle with this loss for awhile. The community is tired of the violence within our on community and it needs to stop. The innocent suffers, the family is only left with the memories and the guilty goes free. Any information in this case is useful, names, numbers, etc... Please those involved and/or those with critical information for once in your lives stand up! James Ragsdale wasn't just a name that you heard, he was a father, employee, son, role model, brother, friend, busniess owner and future husband. Please dont let him be just another unsolved murder. It stops when we stop it. Have you done something good for your community lately? 474-TIPS.

I really miss my brother and will struggle with this loss for awhile. I really wish all those involved and/or that have information will for once in their lives stand up. The community is angry, upset, numb and at a loss of words. We are tired of the violence within our community. Any information in this case is useful. Names, numbers, etc... please don't let my brother become just an unsolved murder!
