Royals owner David Glass recently told The Kansas City Star that he was as frustrated as any fan with the team's dog of a season. "None of us are happy with what we have or where we are," he told beat writer Bob Dutton.
Disappointment is not a new emotion for Glass. Only once since 2000, the year Glass bought the club, has the team finished higher than fourth in the American League Central Division.
On other occasions, Glass has described the feelings that come with owning the Royals. See if you can detect a theme. (All quotes are taken from The Kansas City Star.)
May 2006: "I have never been this frustrated. I've got to do something. This can't continue."
September 2005: "It's frustrating. And I react the same as our fans who get frustrated."
January 2003: "I understand Michael [Sweeney]'s frustration because I'm as frustrated as he is."
June 2002: "It is the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with."
September 2001: "Most of it right now is I'm just venting my frustration. But we're going to examine every part [of the franchise] and see how we can fix it to improve."
May 2001: "[Then-manager] Tony [Muser] is just frustrated, like all the rest of us."

Look, I was a Braves fan in the 80s and that was a rough stretch. But there was at least light at the end of the tunnel. I have lived in the KC are for seven years now and I see no end to the sucking in sight. This team is so bad it's almost laughable. I feel like while I'm watching them that sometimes I accidentally turned on the DVD player with the movie Major League playing. The Royals clearly have the money with ticket sales, luxury tax and revenue sharing to have a payroll near $100 million. The fact that they keep it low just illustrates the fact the lack of commitment to a winner. I know that rich people don't get rich by throwing away money, but baseball owners are supposed to have a passion for the game. I wish all baseball owners had a little George Seinbrenner in them. Love him or hate him the man always tries to win.
But at least we were able to drop a quarter billion to spruce up the ballpark that remains in the wrong place. Is this our generation's answer to the money wasted on Kemper Arena?
Glass can't help it. His Walmart is well know for moving in and shutting down family businesses... the Royals were a family owned business... he's just doing what comes naturally.
Mr. Glass was further quoted as saying, "Although, I gotta say, profits are still WAY up and we're loving the Royals in those all-important business aspects."
Let's keep in mind that Sports Illustrated ranked our own Royals' David Glass as the "Third Worst owner" of a team in the MLB.
Well-deserved, truly.
