Six people, including a reporter for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, were arrested at Rep. Russ Carnahan's forum on aging at Bernard Middle School in Mehlville, Mo. last night. An astroturfing campaign organized by Freedomworks as a response to coming health care legislation has resulted in disruptive gatherings by right-wing teabaggers who have shut down events across the country with shouting and, increasingly, physical violence.

Carnahan's statement this morning: "Sadly we've seen stories about disrupters around the country, and we have a handful of them here in Missouri. Instead of participating in a civil debate, they have mobilized with special interests in Washington who have lined their pockets by overcharging Americans for a broken health care system... I will continue to engage with constituents that I am honored to represent in Congress and fight to achieve long-overdue health insurance reform in our country."

Here's coverage from Talking Points Memo and STLtoday.

Finally, Washington Post Deputy Business Editor Steven Pearlstein, who has been a critic of Democratic health care reform, writes in the Post today:

The recent attacks by Republican leaders and their ideological fellow-travelers on the effort to reform the health-care system have been so misleading, so disingenuous, that they could only spring from a cynical effort to gain partisan political advantage. By poisoning the political well, they've given up any pretense of being the loyal opposition. They've become political terrorists, willing to say or do anything to prevent the country from reaching a consensus on one of its most serious domestic problems.

Give me a break! Why waste people's time with this propaganda (which is nothing more than an organized lie).

That is why so many are angry. They attend these Townhall meetings to get HONEST answers. All they get are organized lies from people who have not even read the proposed legislation.

It is interesting to me that NO VIOLENCE (other than shouting) occurred UNTIL YOUR PEOPLE arrived on the scene.

Who attacked, for no reason, a guy passing out flags and stickers? That is OK with you? It's OK with Obama because he sent them there for this express purpose.

This is Obama's "If you can't shut them up, beat them up" campaign. Chicago politics going national.

You are not going to be able to fly this one. If you are going to lie, do it in a way that isn't so obvious if you expect anyone to believe you.

You too Chris P.
I am hoping you just "don't know".

It took me a while, and I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but if as a supposed "reporter"- you don't investigate, I will retract that "benefit of doubt".

As Americans, under the Constitution, we should ALL be given "benefit of the doubt".
I adhere strictly to the Constitution, and wish you the best...
God Speed Chris.

jjskck-

I don't think you are quite getting it- especially if you only have a "few questions" about Nationalizing Medicine, and giving the Government the red button on OUR LIVES.

Did you read the headline??? It says "Teabaggers disrupt Carnahan event; six arrested."

This is a lie, it is propaganda, and it is a copy/cut/paste on Packham's part. It is lazy, and it is disgusting.

Here is ADDITIONAL footage, where an Obmamamaniac HITS a woman in the eye with her own camera, and it is all caught on tape...
Oh thank gawd for video and the vigilante press.
Watch it and weep pacman and jjskck-
this will prove that Pacham has become a useful idiot, whether he realizes it or not.

The accounts attributing this case (two males arrested) to SEIU are correct. I was there at this event, and soon there will be footage posted of another attack, a woman was calling protesters "selfish", and as another woman was filming her, the first woman punched her in the camera, that of course was up against her eye. I will grant that the expressed purpose of this meeting was NOT to discuss Obama's health care bill, but was about seniors and aging. And the room inside WAS filled with dissent. But what is flashing the news, is what happened outside, and searching SEIU thugs will get you footage enough to see the ambiance of THAT aspect.
Reminds me of B.A.'s for the glazier's union in the 80's....some bad mu..(shut your mouth...)

@SEIU:
Are you saying the alleged victim's own lawyer is an impartial reporter?

@most of you: Look, I have serious questions about this health care bill as well. The difference is that I want to ask them, instead of destroying my own credibility with misplaced vitriol and "we the people", "real American" faux-patriotic hubris.

You are not a more "real" American because you call everyone a propaganda-spewing liar. Stuff like that is not only devoid of critical thought; it also lacks creativity. Frankly, it prohibits you from being taken seriously.

Pardon the error- Kenneth Gladney-

Here is the rest of his lawyer's statement:

Kenneth supports conservative ideals, although he subscribes to no particular political party, Brown continues. We are calling on the SEIU, Representative Carnahan, and President Obama to condemn the racist actions of these union thugs. In the days to come, we will be investigating whether these thugs are working at the behest of Representative Carnahan and how strong their alliances to various organizations such as ACORN may be We hope the St. Louis Tea Party and tea party organizations around the country will protest Representative Carnahans offices and also protest SEIU offices in every major city across the U.S. These Democratic strong-arm tactics must end now.

Chris Packham FAILS at "reporting", receives an A for being a propaganda mouthpiece and usefull idiot.

This article is complete propaganda. You will become the victim of your own propaganda as the people are realizing more and more that the media is merely a lap dog for the administration in power.

Richard Gladney was beaten by an ANGRY MOB of SEIU workers!

Richard Gladney's lawyer released this statement to infowars.com:

Kenneth was attacked on the evening of August 6, 2009 at Rep. Russ Carnahans town hall meeting in South St. Louis County, writes Gladneys attorney, David B. Brown, in an email sent to Infowars. Kenneth was approached by an SEIU representative as Kenneth was handing out Dont Tread on Me flags to other conservatives. The SEIU representative demanded to know why a black man was handing out these flags. The SEIU member used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face. Kenneth fell to the ground. Another SEIU member yelled racial epithets at Kenneth as he kicked him in the head and back. Kenneth was also brutally attacked by one other male SEIU member and an unidentified woman. The three men were clearly SEIU members, as they were wearing T-shirts with the SEIU logo.

Your article is a joke. Carnahan set this meeting up and he tried to use it for his own benefit, however he saw the faces of real Americans who are tired of all the lying Washington elitist. Americans are angry because they are not being listened to. 70% of Americans don't want this government health care plan. How dare you send in thugs to beat up regular Americans.

Your union thugs should work on you for a while. We will only become bolder as President Obama's thugs show up.

From all accounts and other stories posted on news sites, the violence at last night's St. Louis town hall meeting was instigated by several Obama supporters (who happen to be SEIU union members as well) against a solitary man handing out "Don't Tread on Me" flags. The man, who happens to be black, endured racial epithets and a severe beating. Several of the men who beat him were arrested; one (also an SEIU member) fled on foot. This article makes it sound like the tea party folks incited the violence last niught, when from all accounts this is not the case.

Thugs from Chicago were bussed in to intimidate Carnahan's constituents. Be a man Rusty and denounce them. Is there an original thought in Carnahan's head? Have some decency Carnahan and act like a man. Denounce these thugs and why did you let them in the side door. You are history.

I love it. Good for the people who were exercising their rights of free speech. I don't seem to recall articles in your rag bitching about liberal fools disrupting Republican events during the Bush Administration - why the double standard?
I wish the Pitch writers would broaden their horizons and not view the world through such a narrow scope.
