More bad news for The Kansas City Star's employees.

Star
publisher Mark Zieman announced in a memo today that the daily is making most of its employees take a one-week unpaid furlough, offering voluntary buyouts to just about all full-time workers, and extending the wage freeze, the Star reported.

Here's a bit more reassurance for those trapped in the mine.

Zieman said the moves announced Tuesday "should put us in the strongest position possible entering next year."

Our employer did the same thing; all salaried employees have to take five unpaid days off between now and the end of the year -- together or spaced out -- and a 3.84% salary cut spread across the remainder of the year to pay for it. I guess it's a less-painful way to make it happen, though...(spreading it like that).
