On his blog today, Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin updated the status of the police officer who was knocked out in a scuffle in the Power & Light District Sunday night. The officer, a 14-year veteran of the force, "suffered a traumatic head injury" but "his condition was upgraded and he was taken out of intensive care" Tuesday night, Corwin wrote.

"All of us here at KCPD also are praying for the recovery of this officer," Corwin wrote.

Court records say the officer was taken to a hospital where "medical

personnel determined he had bleeding on the brain," and "neurosurgeons were unsure at the time if the

victim would have any permanent damage as a result of his brain

injury."

Jackson County prosecutors charged Scott Wyckoff with

first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and Mark

Wyckoff with felony interference.

Prosecutors allege that 21-year-old Scott Wyckoff tired to sneak past an ID

checkpoint into the Power & Light District but a uniformed

police officer tried to arrest Wyckoff, who allegedly struggled with

the officer and fell on top of him. The officer hit his head and was knocked out, but

that didn't stop Wyckoff from allegedly punching the

unconscious officer in the noggin. Another officer tried

to intervene. That's when dad, 46-year-old Mark Wyckoff, jumped in, allegedly trying to shove an

officer off his son.

Scott Wyckoff later admitted shoving the officer to

the ground and being "intoxicated" and "very aggressive" toward the

officer, documents say.

I can't find any follow up articles on this case. Was Scott Wyckoff successfully prosecuted? And did the officer suffer any lasting effects from his brain injury?

This guy punched and kicked a uniformed police officer after he was unconscious on the ground, causing him to be placed in intensive care in the hospital for bleeding in his brain!!! Sounds like alcohol makes him a different person than you have experienced. These are the exact type of people the police are needed at these events for.

READ AGAIN - That means he had his uniform on. He was working off-duty to watch for assholes like your friend, Scott Wackoff.

i have known scott for over 10 years, he has become my best friend and one of the few people in my life to never turn their back on me. he is the nicest, most kind-hearted guy i have ever met. i have not had a chance to speak to him since all of this happened, but i know in my heart that he would never intentionally harm anyone like this. i am praying for the officer who was injured to fully recover, but i am also praying for scott, and mark. i hope everyone is looking at this from all aspects, and i hope they are treated fairly. scott is a person with beautiful hopes and dreams and has many goals in life. i honestly, do not know what i would do without him in my life.

Knowing Scott personally as my friend, I have never seen any behavior of this kind from him nor ever would believe him to take this kind of action unless to defend himself from physical harm. All that know him can say he is an amazing person of kindness and grace.

How is it that the young man's in question was so severly beaten? Perhaps the son was indeed intoxicated, and behaved like and idiot. But why was he so badly beaten by the police. Could it be that the father was trying to rescue his son from police brutaltiy?

If the officer was not in uniform. How would Scott Wykoff know? He probably thought that it was a guy just trying to be an idiot....I think that people are jumping to conclusions and Scott will be prosecuted unfairly
