The Kansas City Police Department is getting even more stimulus money. Kansas City's share of the Barack bucks is $2.55 million, which a release says will go to keep police on the streets and "civilian support positions."

Other stimulus lottery winners:

  • Jackson County: $1,130,734
  • Independence: $416,746
  • Grandview: $90,600
  • Lee's Summit: $62,699
  • Blue Springs:

    $43,276

  • Raytown: $41,572
  • Sugar Creek: $10,050
Add the $2.55 million to the $8.3 million federal grant the KCPD scored to keep 28 recruits and 22 additional officers.

Dear Anonymous: I have lived in societies where there were no functioning police forces--I suspect you have not. That experience taught me the wisdom of George Orwell's famous remark: "People sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men walk the streets prepared to use violence to protect them." Two weeks in Democratic Congo or Somalia should be more than enough to let you know what Orwell was talking about. Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans
