An attempt at nonchalance by a man suspected of robbing a Church's Chicken was no match for the trained eyes of a Kansas City police officer, according to prosecutors.
Police apprehended the suspect a block from the restaurant minutes after the robbery took place Wednesday night. An officer observed a man matching the description of the robber attempt to discard an object -- a gun, upon closer inspection -- behind a tree, prosecutors say.
Keenan A. Moore, 17, faces robbery, assault and weapons charges in relation to the incident.
Prosecutors says Moore and another man entered the Church's at 39th and
Indiana at 9:50 p.m. Moore pistol-whipped a customer, and the duo fled
after removing $200 to $250 from the cash registers, authorities say. A
Church's employee called 911 as the robbery was taking place, enabling police to respond quickly.
An officer who spotted Moore walking along 38th Street ordered him to the
ground. Prosecutors say the officer located a .32-caliber revolver within range of Moore's toss. Moore had $25 in his pocket and an additional
$93 hidden in his sock, prosecutors say.
The complaint against Moore says he admitted to the crime but refused to identify his accomplice.
