This week's cover story, "Soccer Suckers," by David Martin explores why losing the Wizards proposed soccer stadium to KCK might not be such a bad thing for KCMO. Martin's story also reveals that Kansas City officials passed up a redevelopment plan for the Bannister Mall site in favor of the Wizards plan.

In other news, Ferruzza reviews The Westside Local, which might be the most promising new restaurant in the city. Scherstuhl tells us which films are must sees at the Kansas International Film Festival. Harper's Wayward Son column is all about Chris Williamson and Mics on Fire.

Also this week, we learned:

1. The difference between STAR bonds and TIF.

2. Chris Stigall isn't running for mayor of KCMO.

3. Road House is still awesome.

4. Mayor Funkhouser's fantasy football skills aren't too bad.

5. The sites of the proposed conventional hotel include Barney Allis Plaza, the site of Hanna Rubber Co. and some parking lots.

6. Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue suckered the media into broadcasting its fund-raising letter.

7. Where a prostitute turns tricks.

8. What it's like to have someone play you in a major movie.

9. The firefighters still have city by the balls.
