O'Fallon loon Cynthia Davis is a little sensitive to race relations now that her "birther" lawsuit is progressing. The Missouri House of Representatives member from the other side of the state sent out another bizarre edition of her weekly newsletter, in which she claims racism no longer exists.
"Racism may have affected some people decades ago, but now that we are
in a new millennium, the only people trying to perpetuate racism are
people who are still trying to live in the past or those who are
intentionally trying to stir up unrest," Davis writes.
Decades
ago? What about Rodney King? The Jena 6? Nooses left on campuses across
the country? Swastikas spray painted on walls and in parks?
For the love of God, Cynthia! The Southern Poverty Law Center counts 30 hate groups in our home state.
Sweet, stupid Cynthia is madder than a hornet at former President Jimmy Carter for saying the animosity directed at President Obama is due not to his politics but to his skin color.
"He needed to clarify that those were his thoughts, not others,
especially since nobody is capable of knowing what is in the heart of
another person," Davis writes.
Maybe not the heart of another person but we can get a damn good idea from what comes out of their mouths. People in this country still use the n-word and other racial epithets often, whether you hear it at church group or not. Bet Cynthia doesn't know -- or doesn't believe -- that death threats against President Obama are up 400 percent.
Davis continued: "While it may be possible for some to have racist
thoughts, most people I know consider it a topic that has been resolved
and reconciled in the hearts of everyone that cares."
But, wait, I thought we couldn't tell what was in someone else's heart?
Anyway,
as always, Davis is big on her personal experiences. In her newsletter,
she wrote that when she was in college in New York 30 years ago, she
never experienced or saw any -- ANY -- racism.
IOne of them? There's more.played the piano for two choirs -- the youth choir at Pilgrim Baptist
Church and "His Voice" on campus. I was the only white person in the
bunch, but they treated me like one of them."

of soul. I have seen the day when people are judged not by the color of
their
skin, but on the content of their character (and for some, their
musicianship). To this day, if anyone is in the Capitol and needs to be
accompanied on We Shall Overcome, Never Alone, I'm On the Battlefield
for My Lord, or Lift Every Voice, I could be ready in less time than it
would take to roll out the piano!
I don't know who wants to promote racism, but it is not coming fromCynthia, have you taken a look at your own lawsuit against the president? That's not divisive? Davis' antics -- like advocating for the starvation of children -- would be funny if they weren't so dangerous and disgraceful.people who fear God and adhere to what is taught in the Bible. Perhaps
Jimmy Carter should acknowledge he speaks for himself and get help with
his personal prejudices.
Here is the bottom line: We have far too much to work to accomplishgetting this country back on track than to allow ourselves to be
distracted by those who are being divisive. Making petty and false
assumptions about what others may be thinking will send us down a
destructive path.

This kills me but, really, it's old news. Most every generation going back to the Civil War has plenty of white people who would declare racism dead.
Sure it is.
It never happens to them.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is in the business of finding racism and extremist organizations. Validating the actual nature of nominees for its various lists, and their actual qualifications isn't apparently quite so important.
McCarthyism isn't just about finding a Commie under every bed any more. It's a tactic, not an ideology, and one anyone can use.
Do those 30 organizations the SPLC supposedly found all exist? Are they in fact actually "hate groups"?
For press release and fund raising purposes, sure. But in reality, who knows?
Until the SPLC makes its processes more transparent and allows independent verification of its claims, they should be taken with the same grain of salt as the claims of "Tailgunner Joe" McCarthy's.
Jimmy Carter is the best example of a true Christian I've ever seen. No, he isn't always right. But I'll guarantee you he's following what he believes is right.
