A little after midnight, a Kansas City police officer exchanged gunfire with a man. Kansas City police say the officer attempted a "pedestrian check" on a man walking near 41st and Tracy.
Didn't work. The man bolted. The officer chased him, and the man fell. The man allegedly pulled out a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot at the officer. The officer returned fire and the man ran north on Forest Avenue.
The officer wasn't injured. Police aren't sure if the suspect was shot.
Kansas City police conducted an "Operation 100," searching for a black man wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants between 39th and 41st streets and between Troost and Tracy.
