Didn't work. The man bolted. The officer chased him, and the man fell. The man allegedly pulled out a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot at the officer. The officer returned fire and the man ran north on Forest Avenue.

The officer wasn't injured. Police aren't sure if the suspect was shot.

Kansas City police conducted an "Operation 100," searching for a black man wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants between 39th and 41st streets and between Troost and Tracy.

As always, if you have a tip, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

Update (10:11 a.m. Monday, September 28): Police didn't find the suspect.
