Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing confirmed my suspicions from Saturday. Watching my Cyclones take on the Jayhawks to the wire on Versus, I was shocked at how quiet the fans were in the second half. Wasn't my TV.
Turns out there weren't many fans left in the stands after halftime.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that about 8,000 fans bolted and never came back -- to a tight game that ended up being a shootout. And Kansas is ranked in the top 20. That isn't sitting well with the team.
"It is disappointing when you're in a conference game and you're aGuess KU is still a basketball school.top 20 team and you're in a close game where you could really use some
fan support, and half the student section leaves," quarterback Todd
Reesing said. "All the guys notice that on the team. It's hard not to
notice."
..."It wasn't too cold out there," Reesing said. "That's football
weather right there. I really don't know why (they left). It was a
homecoming game, it was close at half and to see that many people leave
is disappointing to tell you the truth."

Same thing against Southern Miss when it was beautiful out...

It's pretty pathetic, IMO, and I'm a Jayhawks fan. The basketball school argument is ridiculous, because students who are fans of both sports (and there are plenty, I'm sure) should be jumping at the chance to be a part of a school that's good at both.
I certainly hope it's not too Fall-like in a couple of weeks against OU on national television.

A. The temperature never got out of the 30's, so yes, it WAS too cold out there.
B. Football weather or not, it was damned cold out there and most of us aren't ready for it.
C. It was homecoming, so getting drunk was much more important than a silly little football game.
