Jackson County prosecutors charged DeJuan A. Suttington in the death of Rodney S. Coleman last week, The Kansas City Star reports.
Prosecutors charged Suttington, 20, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Police found Coleman, 18, shot to death in the street at 4005 St. John on October 7 around 11 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Later, an autopsy revealed that Coleman was shot three times, including twice in the head.
A witness told police that he saw a man chasing and shooting at Coleman. The witness saw Coleman fall, and then saw the shooter run toward Jackson Avenue when "a heavy set white female" yelled to the suspected shooter, "Come on, let's go."
A caller to the TIPS Hotline told police that a white man, a black man and an overweight white woman were seen fleeing the scene and entered a residence at 202 S. Jackson after the woman shouted, "Get in the house, hurry up."
A third witness told police that he was inside the residence at 202 S.
Jackson when Suttington alleged entered the home and asked the witness
to go with him to see if the man walking down the street was the same
guy who allegedly robbed Suttington's girlfriend and the witness'
mother a month earlier.
The witness told detectives that he went
with Suttington and watched him confront Coleman. Then Suttington's
girlfriend, 20-year-old Kasandra R. Pulley, arrived, allegedly
got in Coleman's face, taunted him and accused him of robbing her.
Coleman denied the claims, the witness said, but Suttington allegedly
pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot at Coleman.
Coleman ran. Later, Suttington allegedly told the witness that he
missed with his first two shots but hit Coleman with the third. Once
Coleman was on the ground, Suttington allegedly shot him in the head.
Suttington was arrested on October 13, and denied involvement in the homicide.
Pulley was also arrested on October 13. She demanded an attorney and refused to talk. She has yet to be charged with a crime.

it went like this, i had my little sisters borfriend livin with us because he had no where to go. and my baby dad was the only one workin supportin all us and the baby. this shit happend when he got off work when we were walkin to the store....about a week later detects are at my house wantin to talk to me. so i go down and talk they release me and take me home. niel found out (my sisters boyfriend) i got questioned and the detects didnt even know who he was because they asked i never told, my babys dad goes while im bein questioned and told him to turn himself in because it was messin with our family...he goes down town turns himself in and turns the story around on my babies dad and makes the witness statement sayin dejuan did it. now this is where were at. crazy!!! wrong and fucked up...my mistake was keepin my mouth shut, now its tearin my family apart over some stupid decisions and no one thinkin!

not everything is always what it seems....this is nothing like it seems and i understand you probably wont believe me and i understand that you are all hurt and feeling bad but dejuan did not do it, and any one who knew him knows that he would never do any thing like this. he is a hard working man who did nothing for the past two years but take care of his family whom is also now havin to suffer. i know i could never feel how anyone who knew this man feels but at the same time heinz sight is 20/20....this is all a big misunderstanding

This incident has restored my faith in the justice system. Thank God for his wonderful power. He has allowed our family to find peace. My heart cries out for all involved. I know that God will give the young man's mother the strength she needs to get through this.
I worked with Rodney and this man was a good man a honest man. He could put a smile on our faces, My prayers are with his family.
I'm very sorry this happend to rodney. He use to live next door to me and we worked together for awhile. Keep your head up niecy.
