Dear Pitch: More bad news on local crime scene. Now up to 29 homicides in KCK--vs. 24 at this time in 2008. In all of 2007 there were 25 homicides in KCK, in all of 2008 there were 33--trend lines are ominous. No time to be cutting size of KCK police force. Fearless prediction: Soon to see the following press release from city government: "Homicides may be up, but other forms of crime down sharply"; as former DC Mayor Marion Barry used to say: "Aside from the murders, DC is one of the safest cities in the country." Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans
