Update (8:56 a.m. Tuesday, October 27): The official word from the Kansas City police is they're still investigating how the shooting occurred. Detectives are on the scene. Police were called around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, and found the victim dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Police describe the man as black and in his late twenties.

Kansas City police are investigating the death of a man in the 10000 block of E. 42nd Street, KMBC Channel 9 reports.
Reports are sketchy on what really happened. KMBC reports that police responded to the Stonegate Meadows apartments after a call from a woman saying a 26-year-old man may have harmed himself around 5 a.m.
But The Kansas City Star reported that "police are working an early morning shooting murder" after a man was found shot in the head.
The man's name has not been released, and we're still waiting for the official word from the KCPD.

Open Letter to All KC-Area Reporters, Bloggers, Journalists and Investigators: You should be aware that in the sort of crime wave we are now having there are going to be strong pressures from a variety of powerful interest groups on the KCPD to "doctor" crime statistics, including homicide statistics. I see no evidence that the KCPD has done so, but this is the pattern in every city concerned about rising crime: We have already lost our three biggest conventions, and in that environment a lot of powerful and influential people are desperate for some "good news" on the crime front to avoid losing any more.
