Royals considered horndog Phillips for G.M. job

Steve Phillips, the baseball analyst ESPN fired after his sexual encounters with a 22-year-old production assistant became public, was considered for the general manager's position that Dayton Moore filled in 2006.

News reports linked Phillips to the Royals job after it became evident that team owner David Glass was fixing to can Allard Baird, the beleaguered G.M. who struggled to field a competent team under the Glass family's chiseling ownership.

Glass reportedly approached Phillips about the job. The rumors were so strong, Phillips called Baird to apologize for the distraction.

Phillips was the general manager of the New York Mets from 1997 to

2003. In 1998, shortly before a former team receptionist brought a sexual-harassment

lawsuit, he admitted to conducting extramarital affairs.

Royals fans can be grateful that Glass hired the frequently tedious Moore instead of Phillips. In addition to being a philandering creep, Phillips made a number of horrible trades for washed-up players

Of course, Phillips, a handsome former infielder and scout, sure looks like he knows what he's doing.

Well said. He looks like he knows what he's doing, but anyone who's watched more than two episodes of Baseball Tonight knows he's all hot air, blather, and contradiction. And apparently a skirt-chasing penis.
