Dear Pitch: As always, thanks for keeping a "running tally" of the city's homicides--a statistic a lot of powerful local groups want "swept under the rug." Fearless prediction: KCMO now has a national distinction: We are the only city of any size in the country to have had more homicides in both 2008 and 2009 than in 2007; so any day now the Chamber of Commerce will force the KCPD to release a statement saying: "Homicides may be up in KCMO, but other forms of violent crime are down sharply in the past two years." In the immortal words of former DC Mayor Marion Barry: "Aside from the homicides, DC is one of the safest cities in the country." Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans
