Secret investigation of Jayhawks coach Mark Mangino ongoing

A headline like "KU AD Perkins meets with football players over concerns about coach Mark Mangino" can mean a lot of different things.

Just look at the picture (Mangino is on the left).

The Lawrence Journal-World quotes KU athletic director Lew Perkins saying "an internal review is underway" about a "personnel matter."

Of course, that makes the whole thing "confidential." But in the middle of a disappointing 5-5 season and on a five-game losing streak, this isn't good for Mangino.

The Kansas City Star gets a little closer to what's going on, saying the investigation involves an incident between Mangino and a player. The Star says players were invited to tell a "formal panel" their concerns about Mangino, and there is "an organized group of former players' parents" who are "ready to air their concerns."

Again, not good. Doubt it has anything to do with Mangino's gentle coaching style (NSFW).

If you want to speculate as to what those "concerns" may be, hit the boards cause the rumors are already running wild.

I can't get over the fact that the Orange Bowl mascot is smaller than Mangino. Is that a real pic or is it shooped?

Mark Mangino's gravitational pull. That's awesome.

Nut up, KU players. Take responsibility for your altercations with the basketball team and for your losses and move forward. Many coaches yell and physically interact with players. If you want to transfer, then do it, but don't blame the couch (typo and it stays).

And he probably didn't mean to physically interact with a player, the kid probably just got sucked up in his force field.

If I had to guess, he's done. He would have been gone after 2007, except his team kinda won the Orange Bowl. He's done nothing else in his tenure.

ESPN says

A source briefed on the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad that one particular incident allegedly involved Mangino yelling at and making contact with a player earlier this season.

...

According to one source, some players have threatened to transfer from the program because of what they perceive to be having spoken to in an inappropriate manner.

I don't mean for this to sound hurtful, but could it have something to do with his weight? It sounds like the PLAYERS are concerned about him (instead of the NCAA snooping around for violation)...perhaps it has something to do with health issues?
