Six-time Kansas Congressman Dennis Moore isn't running for re-election.
The Kansas City Star says Moore is expected to issue a statement later today.
Your guess is as good as mine on who Kansas Dems find to run for the seat, although Forward Kansas is already floating a few. For their sake, it better go smoother than finding a successor to Kathleen Sebelius and Mark Parkinson.
There's a word for Kansas Democrats in 2010: Fucked.

Good riddance. Dennis Moore is anything but center left. He is extreme left on social and fiscal issues. Just look at his voting record. He won his first election for this seat demagoging social security to scare seniors into voting for him. Steve Kraske at the KC Star even called him out for outright lying about the position of his opponent regarding social security reform. He has claimed he is a blue dog Democrat which anyone paying attention knows is a liberal Democrat who has to pretend he or she is a moderate or conservative to win in Republican or Republican leaning districts. His departure will open the door for someone who will honestly represent the constituents of the 3rd Congressional District.
Well, it was nice while it lasted. It looks like there'll be a complete republican sweep of Kansas next year, and there aren't any sensible politicians left in that party so we're ALL fucked.
Dennis has seemed tired lately, I hope he's not sick. Kansas D's have been living on borrowed time for a long time. Now the jig is up.
Agreed. Dennis Moore is a slightly-left-of-center (read: moderate) Dem in a Republican district, which is why he's been able to hold onto his seat. I hope we can elect someone not too far from his place on the political spectrum - regardless of party affiliation.
Being something other than a left- or right-wing nutjob doesn't generate a lot of news stories. It's not sexy. It doesn't polarize people. But we need more of them.
Asshole nutjobs, do us all a favor and don't run.
