Former Kansas City Star gossip columnist Hearne Christopher Jr. has been charged with driving under the influence, according to police in Prairie Village. Christopher was arrested in the 3100 block of West 79th Street at 2:38 a.m. today.
Christopher first reported his arrest on his blog, filing his report at 5:42 a.m.
Christopher wrote that he was returning home from the Plaza when he "rolled a stop sign" and "drove left of center" on 77th and Booth, and was then stopped in his driveway and arrested.
Christopher wrote (emphasis his own):
When my "mug shot" came out with exaggerated shadows under my eyes, I asked for a retake. Officer Porter -- the victim of my photographing him during the experience -- countered with an offer to reshoot it if I would agree not to use his photos.
I did not agree. So the photo was not retaken, even though he agreed the photo of me was unusually inaccurate."Are you saying you're going to paint me in a bad light," Porter queried. No way, I answered. Just the facts, man.
Christopher wrote that he posted $1,000 bond and is awaiting a court date in Prairie Village Municipal Court.
Here's the "unusually inaccurate" mug shot.

Anne +100 for the melodrama. That's strong work. Should we take up a plate next to the Salvation Army bell ringer at HyVee? A pancake supper, donations accepted? Silent auction?
I don't know the guy well, but just a typical depressed Kansas City gossip hound from what I do know of him. No wonder he drinks like a fish. Depression (and living in Kanasas City)will do that to ya! Cocky as all hell, too....and what the hell for? He is so pretentious...and a geek!
I thought innocent until proven guilty but apparently most of the people reading this and responding feel otherwise, good luck when it's you on the firing line.
"All Right, Mr. DeMille, Im ready for my close-up"
Smart Alex - I agree! He was driving drunk. I'm just pissed because the cops always choose the easy targets.
As I said, I'm not a fan of Hearne Christopher, anyway, but I take exception to the Star reporting it.
They fired him. He does not work for the Star. They have no responsibilty to report this. He is not a public servant. He's just a guy. Do they report every DUI? NO!
I think they are just trying to screw him over again because they don't like him.
Whether you like him or not, it's not cool for a "reputable" newspaper to report a DUI on any common citizen, unless they do it on everyone.
Hearne rules. I don't care what anybody says, the dude looks good. I mean come on, he's got a scarf on, got that James Deansean thing going with the trench coat and slightly askew shoulders, the knowing smile, the far-away eyes. And salute America -- innocent until proven guilty!!
Did this pic come from the cops or from him? It does look like it was put through a HDR filter or something to lighten shadows, check out the odd light grey shadows in the crease of his arm and under his jacket. His eyes look like cloudy eyeballs of a corpse
Actually, he looks like Vincent the chin Giagante.

So the guy gets pulled over and all he is worried about is the quality of his mug shot? I don't know the guy, but that sounds like his priorities are messed up.
MJ-The guy was driving drunk. Do you think the police should just let him go?
Never been a big fan, but the cops always stop the ones that are easy picks. I'm really sick of that stuff. I got a $220 ticket a couple of weeks ago in a "school zone", no one around, and easy catch. He was pulling into his driveway? Oh, puleeze. Where are they when they are really needed?
Aren't mug shots usually taken behind a blank wall?
Anonymous up above better be comment of the week.
What an idiot. I guess he's not worried about losing his job at the Sun since he's probably not getting paid much more than an occasional free lunch anyway.
Let's see he's lost his job as gossip columnist ordinaire and chief askisser at the Star, lost his marriage and now he's lost his license to drive home drunk after attending social events where he's not exactly welcomed but gets a handout (free ticket) anyway in the hopes he doesn't write some smug, condescending article.
Which of course he does anyway, in the paper run by the My Tummy Aches candidate.
Who cares?
Now we're doing DUI photos for random, anonymous peope pulled over?
He had a $1000 bond? That seems pretty high, unless it wasn't his first DUI. I wonder what he blew? Judging by the pic, I'd say a .10 or somewhere around there.
