The list of sites for a downtown convention hotel is down to four, and Barney Allis Plaza is among the finalists.
Fox 4 reports that the city cut its list of sites in half on Monday, and although the 1,000-room convention hotel isn't a certainty, it's inching toward becoming one. Oh, and you're going to subsidize it.
Here's the final four:
1. Barney Allis Plaza: Southeast corner of 12th and Central streets
Jury Site: 13th and 14th streets, between Wyandotte Street and
Baltimore Avenue. This block includes the Power & Light Building.

I'm hoping they utilize the block of the Power and Light building. They're not going to tear it down, but like johnkcmo said, incorporate it into the design. On the west side of the Power and Light building, which is unsightly and empty, will rise a new 36-story hotel, and directly north to the old tower, there will be a parking garage and meeting rooms. I think it's a great plan to revitalize such an amazing and breathtaking building, as well as bring more convention business downtown.
It's my understanding that they won't tear the power and light building down, but incorporate it into the project.
If we had a streetcar/light rail there wouldn't be a need for this monstrosity. People could get from crown center to downtown without a problem...Just a theory
"That Guy" needs to watch his language... come on, using words like "pissing" online. ... really... XD
WHAT??? Tear down the Power and Light Building?!? They must be complete idiots! I'm guessing they haven't looked up and seen this magnificent structure because their noses are buried in too many legislators' pockets, looking for MORE MONEY. Asshats!
Fuck this hotel.
Fuck tearing down the Power and Light Building.
Fuck tearing up Barney Ellis plaza.
And Fuck these fucking fuckers that keep saying we need this fucking convention hotel.
Fuck "large" conventions. Are there no small fucking conventions?
And super hard fuck to our fucking city leaders. For fucking even thinking about this fucking fucked up fucking hotel.
What? We don't have other, more pressing fucking problems?
This whole thing is really fucking pissing me off.
