Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins best look elsewhere for his next head football coach.
Houston Nutt has reportedly said he "appreciates the interest Kansas showed in our staff" but he's staying put at Ole Miss.
Here's Nutt's full statement:
"I continue to appreciate the ongoing support of Chancellor Dan Jones and Athletics Director Pete Boone. We came to Ole Miss committed to building the type program that our fans deserve. Ole Miss is a great university and the quality of life in Oxford is the envy of others. I can't think of anywhere else we would like to be. There are so many positives here, and we're excited about the direction of the program. Our players are also excited and the response we are receiving from recruits and their parents is most gratifying. We appreciate the interest Kansas showed in our staff, but we are happy at Ole Miss and looking forward to the AT&T Cotton Bowl."
Are there any "big splash" candidates left on Perkins' list?

I don't see anyone coaching in a major conference at a major university leaving to coach at Kansas. Granted Kansas has seen much success over the past few years. I think they should find a good coach on his way out of a major program or a promising coach who has shown some success over the past few years. It is important to find someone that will stay at Kansas and not use it as a stepping stone. Kansas needs to create a football culture and create and harness the excitement that football brings. Bring someone in that will change things up.One that will create an exciting offense and unbreakable defense. Give him a few years to bring his people in and fine tune his system and sit back and enjoy.
What KU should try to find is a coach who has head-coaching experience in a big conference, and who has led a team without much history of football success to an unexpected victory in a major bowl game.
Oh, wait, they fired that guy.
There can't be that many. Kansas is a low-level BCS job, meaning they'll attract head coaches who have made some impact at smaller schools (i.e. Turner Gill) or coordinators from BCS schools. No head coach is going to move from Ole Miss or Stanford to KU, because both of those are better jobs than KU.
