We made it. We beat back the hysteria, the shortages, the late deliveries and the we're-all-gonna-die paranoia. Congratulations.

Tomorrow, December 10, and Saturday, the Health Department will lift priority group restrictions and offer H1N1 "swine flu" vaccinations to anyone who wants one.

There are two chances to get this done:

  • Thursday, December 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 9420 James A. Reed Road
  • Saturday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave.
Thus far, vaccinations had been restricted to the priority group (those 6 months to 24 years old, health-care workers, and other key personnel), which meant anyone born after 1984 was being turned away.

The vaccination is free and there are thousands of them -- both the spray and the injection -- and anyone older than 6 months can get one.

Though the flu season appears to be abating, the Health Department maintains that people not in the high risk group can still get the flu and spread it to those who are.

Oh, why bother? I felt bad for a few days in October and thought I was fighting off a virus, but the symptoms passed without blowing up into anything serious. I'm right as rain now. Was that the H1N1? I'll never know for certain. I'm going to assume that it was, so getting the vaccine would be utterly redundant, a bit like putting on a condom the morning after. Nice try CDC, maybe next year's pandemic will be the one to shake our society to the core. We could call it the bird flu. Oops. How forgetful of me. That one already came and went, didn't it?

I can't tell if you're being snarky or not. I sure hope so. I wouldn't take that shit for all the tea in China.
