Sol Cantina, the Corona-drenched club at 408 E. 31st Street, will be spending the first few days of 2010 stone-cold sober. The city's Regulated Industries Division has suspended the club's liquor license from January 1 at 6 a.m. to January 8 at 3 a.m. after busting employees serving alcohol to minors.

This is the second such violation for Sol Cantina in four months; they were forced to close for a week back in August after being busted for the same offense.

Once again, Sol Cantina's manager must provide "education, training and instruction to their employees about City ordinances," according to a city press release.

Updates when we hear back from Regulated Industries or Sol Cantina's peeps.

Recently, I had a wall beer opener installed in my kitchen. While I'm not ready to retire my regular bottle opener. However, it's so nice having it as a backup just in case I lose my portable opener.

Can some newsie find out why different places receive different penalties for the same violations?

This one received 1 week of no liquor; in August, they were actually closed all the way (as was la Bodega Sept 7-9), but only for two days; is that the scale? First offense is 2 days closed, second is just can't sell? That seems to be backwards. Additionally:

July 13 - July 15, Discount Liquor & Tobacco (Russell Rd.), was closed, too (2 days)

Aug. 15 - Sept. 12, Millennium Super Stop (Truman Rd) lost its liquor-selling privileges, but got to stay open (1 month)

Aug. 16 - Aug. 30, both Prairie View Phillips (NW PR Road) and Star Discount Smoke & Tobacco (Vivion Rd.) couldn't sell booze, but got to stay open (2 weeks)

Aug. 16 - Aug. 22, Hen House (N. Chatham Ave.) couldn't sell liquor but got to stay open (1 week why did the gas stations above gets a harsher penalties?)

Aug. 26 - Sept. 1, 7-eleven (3201 Ind. Ave.), could not sell liquor, but got to stay open (1 week; other gas stations got 2)

Sept. 26 - Sept. 30, Red Front (Admiral Blvd.) was closed for selling to minors (4 days; seems random compared to others)

And coming soon and differently than the other bars that just had to close 2 days in August: Jan. 1 - 8, SOL, 408 E. 31st St.) will be closed for selling to minors (1 week)

Of course, I have all the time to write this but not to phone Gary Majors or Jim Ready : )

(or to go fishing in the city ordinances / i don't work at a paper where my regulated industries file lives anymore : )

Thanks!

(typo above: bused / busted)

How convenient that they are allowed to stay open for the busy holiday season (including New Year's Eve).
