  • Dear Jesus, please deliver the poor from quality health care.

In the lead-up to Christmas, it's important to remember the real meaning of the season: Christmas. As in, mas presents, mas spending and debt, mas Zhu Zhu Pets, or whatever. Mas, mas, mas.

How does that apply here? Glad you asked. When staffer Justin Kendall linked a video about Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback's participation in a "prayercast" against health care reform, Bible-literate reader majii saw through Brownback's use of Christ when what he really wanted was mas.

That "Prayercast" was the biggest croc of pooh I've ever seen. The

whole cast of "Christians" praying to deny millions of Americans

something that they need is the very example of hyprocrisy in action.

They forgot that the Scripture says to pray in private, not in public

to put on a show to demonstrate how pious you are. The "Prayercast" was

an online show. That's all. Christians? I think not.

From the Good News Bible/English Version

Proverbs 14:31

If you oppress poor people, you insult the God who made them; but

kindness shown to the poor is an act of worship.

The only gods these nuts worship are the corporations and themselves.

Thanks to majii -- a play on magi? -- for helping realign our moral and theological compasses here in the thick of the holiday season.
