Our top five videos of 2009: White T-Shirt Kicked out of P&L

Posted by Peter Rugg on Thu, Dec 31, 2009 at 1:32 PM

Of all the footage we shot this year, this video was the most important. Ever since the Power & Light District opened, its dress code has been a source of controversy.  Some argued it unfairly targeted black men, others said it was simply about "setting a standard of attire" to protect the district's image. Meetings were held, marchers marched, and Cordish held discussions with city leaders. Even with all this, few people actually knew what enforcing the code looked like. Then on St. Patrick's Day, the Pitch Action News Team was in P&L getting some photographs when a young man in a white shirt who - as far as we could see - was only calmly drinking a beer with some friends, was surrounded by security guards and escorted out. Whatever your judgment of the situation is, it was important for people to get to see the dress code in action.

But then again, can you blame the Cordish Company for trying to protect its' investment. Look at the crime rate, and the failure rate of businesses that haven't addressed the Ghetto Thug clientele. I never have understood why anyone would want to go where they aren't wanted....but then again I don't understand teenage pregnancy, illiteracy and crack dealing as family values like the Ghetto rats do.

Lame. I don't think I would judge that man as wearing an 'undergarment'.
Anyway, It's clear that they made exceptions to the dress code for the St. Patrick's holiday. In the brief shot of the escort out, there are several people in 'athletic apparel' and 'sweat suit' clothing.
I thought 'headgear' was another banned item... there are obviously a ton of hats and yeah, even wigs.
Think we can get in on a random Saturday night dressed in a green KU shirt and green wig with face paint?
On top of being racist, it's F*ed up that men are discriminated against. Chicks could get in wearing ripped 49ers bras and work boots if the guards thought they were hot.

It is pretty ironic and ridiculous to enforce a dress code for a white t-shirt while other people are wearing green wigs, leprecaun clothes and stupid ND clothes.

But please PITCH, this isn't significant journalism or Pulitizer Prize material, any more than your pictures of Hearne Christopher Jr's arrest photo's were.

Mostly the same people who used to describe the Ku Klux Klan as a "social club" with no racist intent.

This is chilling and unbelievable; shades of Weimar Germany circa 1933. Think what our culture will be like a decade from now. Everyone more homogenized and sanitized than even Orwell could imagine. We are already down the rabbit hole with Alice, safe in our alabaster chambers. Get me outta here, now!

Wouldn't want all the Ed Hardy wearing frat boys discussing if Jay Z is better than Lil Wayne to get uncomfortable around black people.
