Kansas lawmaker reveals why K2 synthetic marijuana must be feared

We told you Friday that Kansas state Rep. Robert Olson would announce a bill to criminalize K2 synthetic weed on Monday. Today, Olson, a Republican and the Majority Whip, revealed why he believes K2 is dangerous ... and his reasons aren't surprising.

There's the usual stuff about high school students and gateway drugs and operating heavy machinery and all that shit you can apply to booze, but there's also a claim that K2 is some form of master-weed. According to Johnson County forensic scientist Jeremy Morris, who Olson quotes in his press release: "The effects of THC happen when the chemical binds with receptors in the user's brain, like a key fitting into a lock. (K2's active chemicals) are better keys then THC, and therefore, it takes less of them to get you high -- and that high will last longer. K2 takes all of the negative effects of THC and heightens them."

Here we must take issue. The Pitch conducted human trials, and our testers agreed on one thing -- a K2 high is extremely truncated compared to a real marijuana.

It's not shocking or outrageous that Olson is moving to ban the stuff, but it does seem like a lot of cynical legislative fuss considering that -- when you look at what's happening nationally -- even if this bill goes through there's a good chance you'll be able to get legal weed soon anyway.

Read Olson's bill after the jump.

Isn't it funny how you can go to the doctor and easily get a prescription for an endless amount of drugs that can lead to organ damage/failure or even death, yet the authorities are having a hissy fit over some k2 herb fake weed stuff. Okay, not funny. Infuriating. They waste so much time and money chasing stuff like this down. They are only adding to the huge overcrowding problem we currently have in American prisons. K2 incense has survived every ban thus far and you can still buy k2 smoke products that aren't restricted by ANY current ban, so really, what exactly are they trying to achieve here???

man all the debates are retarded and if you guys think the bill trying to get passed to ban k2 is for k2 your wrong read the finer print that is just something to put infront of caring parents and upstanding people with worries every time they pass a law good or bad they are passing 20 or more other things in that same bill check it out for yourself. just like they say were in an economic depression no were not just everyone thought we were because we are told we are. it took your mind off the war though didnt it, im not a paranoid person i dont smoke weed i am not an booser i have nothing against weed or k2 or boose, just people that think we are actually fighting something. for instance if i say blue butterfly you will think of a blue butterfly.
if your best friend tells you that someone is a bad person, your going to think that person is a bad person.
so if i said that we eat too much as americans, we are over weight generally and 50% of people have smoked weed that are of the age to smoke 18, now here comes the point to all of this read the damn bill before voting, it will not all be about k2. thank you for reading i hope you had an understanding and if you were high you probably didnt get a word i said. just kiddin

Look, marijuana can be a good way to make money for the government. The BILLIONS of dollars put into on the streets could be turned around and given to the country. Either way, people will do what they can to do what they want...

I think that K2 should stay legal. I mean come on? People are going to smoke marijuana, snort coke, shoot up meth, every drug in the book is going to be done regardless of any laws the government creates. Its dumb to waste time and money on some bullshit law, when its pointless because either way people are going to do it.

i just smoked it for two weeks straight. i havent noticed any side effects, and i feel fine. i decided to get my own opinion before it becomes illegal. i thought it was fun, it can give you a small headache if you smoke it all day but thats the worst it ever did. unless there are long term effects i would really like to see this stay legal. as far as i know it seems safer than alcohol. and alcohol will give you an enormous headache after a few hours. i would strongly urge anyone who is against it to smoke it before just beleiving what you hear. sincerly. . . a human ginea pig. oh and p.s. i was pushed to try it because of all the retarded opposing comments.

How many people are getting into fatal vehicle crashes due to drinking and driving campared to those who are killing theirselves driving like idiots high on marijuana? What Olson should do is, sit down and smoke a blunt of that K2 himself before he goes around taking it away from the people who smoke it to keep their careers secure. Instead of turning to the real deal this K2 keeps people safe who voted him in office, and the people who fight for his freedom to even hold that position in office. Why are people so selfish? Just let it go! He probably has never even had a bad run in with someone who was high on it. And don't even go talking about the economy going to hell because it's been ruined since Bush was in office. Why would a state elect someone who does not even look like they take care of themselves anyways? How did he get put in office? The man is fat, obviously discipline is lacked here and therefor you know he will act like a damned idiot as soon as he gets the smallest bit of authority.

Republicans have a long history of legislating what we can do with our own bodies. I saw a picture of the chuckleheads proposing legislation and they looked so damn self-righteous it made me puke.

I hope this will motivate anyone over the age of 18 in Johnson County to register to vote and vote Rob Olson out of office. While you are at it, vote the Sheriff and Deputies out as well since they are the one's who started all the hype.

This bill is being sponsored by the party that wants us to believe that they're in favor of less government intervention? Where's Ron Paul when you need him?

There are an infinite amount of ways to tweak the THC molecule a little bit and have it still work in the brain. No matter how many variations they make illegal, more will be invented. Hope the lawmakers don't have anything else to do if they plan to keep going after this stuff each time a new one comes out.

The only thing that will stop this is legalizing the real thing.

Are we going to make a law for everything that can be abused? The prohibition of Marijuana is just creating demand for (safer - in the legal sense of repercussions) and more potentially dangerous drugs.

I don't think the public knows how many more drugs like this are out there but legal. There will be more. If my kids did get their hands and curiosity set on drugs, I would much rather they mess with the organic non-lethal, than the synthetic (unstudied) drugs.

How much will this costs to make a law? We could just erase the laws that haven't worked the past thirty years and didn't work for alcohol and save the money and stymie the demand for new cutting edge street drugs.

Lol. We have to fear it because its like THC!!!!11 Not because its a new synthetic cannabinoid thats never been tested on humans and might cause cancer.

If this article had some rational explanation as the one reason I've stated above it might have some ground to have extra product labels or warnings.

This is propagandist material against marijuana found on no sound scientific basis besides the same irrational fears proported by War on Drugs.

Do we really wanna live in the nanny state where the government tells you what to do with your own body? This sort of talk is a slippery-slope to banning fast food, soda, R rated movies, and staying up past 9.

Inform people with FAIR and impartial information. Let them make their own decisions in life. Let Darwinism work itself out. If you still use smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or smoke weed after thorough warning of the potential negative side effects so be it.

Yeah, make a big case about this so that ALL the kids know about it. Just like that salvia stuff. You made a big deal about it...the kids tried it and ... guess what? They didn't like it and quit using it. No need for another law.

How does it go? You can tell how quickly a society is falling apart by how many laws they have to control peoples actions to an extreme point. Look familiar?

I'm glad Robert Olson feels like he needs to do this. He's just outed himself as another out of touch politician that I will be helping vote out of office next time I see his name on the ballot.
