Local psychics predict natural disasters ... and respectability for the Royals in 2010?

First, the good news: 2010 will not be the year for serious seismic activity along the New Madrid Fault Line in Missouri. But there will be several major earthquakes shaking things up in 2010 -- including the East Coast of the United States -- since this is the year, according to several of the local psychics who gathered last night at the Aquarius store in Westport, that "Mother Nature starts World War III on human beings."

If that sounds ominous, there were also woeful predictions for the economy (stay tuned for another global economic downturn in the summer), the local job market, insurance companies, and reality TV show stars. But here's a glimmer of hope: It will be an excellent year for dining out in Kansas City!

Less than a dozen people braved the cold and snowy streets to sit on folding chairs in the upstairs room at Aquaruis to listen to the store's owner Barbara Criswell -- an expert on the Mayan calendar and prophesies -- and a panel that included psychic Steve MacDonald; KKFI-FM's longtime host of the call-in "Psychic Talk" program Saphira;  and psychic medium Karen Glasgow-Follet.

The predictions follow ...

Karen Glasgow-Follett predicts that 2010 will be a time of evolution: "We'll adapt to live in a changing environment." The changes include a propensity for more crime and violence in America. Instead of flipping off the driver who cuts you off in traffic, Glasgow-Follet advises a more peaceful approach: "Instead of flipping him the bird, send him an angel."

Glasgow-Follet believes the economy will rebound, but not to where it was prior to the last major downturn: "The job market will improve, but people will need to redefine what they want from their work.

Weather? "Mother Nature will be flexing her muscles this year," Glasgow-Follet said. "There will be flood issues."

The big insurance companies, she says, are "breathing their last. It won't happen this year, but over the next five years."

Steve MacDonald
believes 2010 will be turbulent in terms of weather, not unlike 2004, the year of the devastating tsunami. Kansas City may have its own weather issues -- tornados perhaps -- in April and May. He predicts earthquakes in New Zealand, Japan, China and possibly America's East Coast.

Politics, MacDonald said, will be interesting in 2010: "A lot of dark horses coming in the primary campaigns."

Sports? "KU will continue to dominate basketball," MacDonald said. "It will be a somewhat better year for the Royals -- the team will be taken more seriously on a national level. The Chiefs will improve too."

Things won't fare so well for reality show TV stars: "There will be a backlash against these manufactured stars," MacDonald said. "This is the year that raw talent is seen as the real deal." MacDonald also predicts a major motion picture will be filmed in Kansas City this year. Kansas City will also make a place on the map "gastronomically speaking," with new restaurants opening that combine different ethnic culinary styles.

Saphira
sees a new underground economy developing that doesn't involve the exchange of money. That may be a good thing since Saphira isn't sure the economy will rebound as robustly as others predict. In fact, she sees more entrepreneurs out there than new traditional jobs. Internationally it will be a splendid year for the European Union, there will be a scandal -- possibly a sex scandal -- in Finland, a revolution in China, a seismic event ("A gaping wound") in southern Mexico, internal political divisions in Iran, another stimulus package being passed here in the States, and Tiger Woods will return to golf (she sees him playing in The Masters tournament in April) and his marriage. "Taxes will be raised in both Missouri and Kansas," she said.

Barbara Criswell
warned that there are 656 days until December 21, 2012 -- the end of the Mayan Calendar -- but it will not be the end of the world. Just the end of the world as we currently know it. "People resistent to change will have a hard time," she said.

The world economy will take another direct hit between May and August of 2010," Criswell predicts. There will be a major act of terrorism in the United States, a dilplomatic breakthrough with Iran, the devaluation of the U.S. dollar and some very bad seismic or weather conditions: "Mother Nature is declaring World War III on human beings," she said.

Predict enough and eventually you'll hit one right.
I predict that the American people will elect a woman as their next president.
It'll probably NOT be Hillary as she's a democrat.

It probably won't be that sexy vixen from Alaska either.

So look around and find your next president
