Inman Police Chief Michael Leland Akins Jr. has been charged with sexually abusing four children under the age of 14 in McPherson County, Kansas.
Kansas Attorney General Steve Six announced today that Akins is charged 19 counts of sex crimes and two counts of battery against three girls and a boy between December 2008 and December 2009.
The charges against Akins include one count of rape, 12 counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, two counts of aggravated indecent solitication of a child, one count of indecent solicitation of a child (higher level than before), two counts of battery and one count of lewd and lascivious behavior.
Akins is locked up in the McPherson County jail. His bond is $250,000.
His preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. January 15.

I do not know whether these allegations are true or false, but i had known mike for a couple of years, but i also knew the kids somewhat, i do not think that the kids would like about such a thing. they are good kids with a very good mother who would not allow her children to lie about something like this.
Let me clarify. The oldest daughter was scared of her step father possibly because he wore a gun while molesting her. He has tried to pick up children before and also hit on women almost in a stalkin manner. Children do not make up stories and describe things that these children have if they are not true. Get a life people!!
Having read alot of article about mike I would like to clear a few things up.I know some very close friends of the family and they say he is a good person. It sadden me to see these false allegations that these step children are making. The reason I am making a point to mention it was step-children isnt to emphasize the "step" factor. The news mentioned four victims without explanation. If Mikie was accused of four separate random cases of child molestation it would be must more believable and less likely of cohercement from an older sister. Yes many children are abused by their biological parents or relatives and by step parents. This in itself doesn't vindicate Mikie. I just want to make sure the point is made that this a family situation. I have knowledge from close friends of the children that would indicate that the 14 year old acted in anger because she was forced to break up with her boy friend. The brother is very protective and the sisters are very impressionable. None of this proves anything in absolute but I would like all of the facts on the table and not just what the AG wants to put out. The reason why I beleive that they arrested Mikie in the manner they did was because the mother works for the District Attorney and knows the Judge on a personal basis. The Sheriff that led the team to Mikie's office is known to be a cowboy.
This is just unbelievable. It is very interesting that after Mike files for divorce these false accusations come up. Mike is a very good and kind person There is not doubt in my mind he is innocent. My prayers are with him and I pray justice prevails
It's interesting that people automatically assume a person is guilty just because there are children involved. Children come back and admit they lied all the time. I am familiar with this family's situation. What a coincidence that the accusers (ex-wife and her children) waited until Mike filed for divorce to bring this up! Mike is a good man whose life is being turned upside down by false accusations.
Why is it that whenever there's a story about a sex crime people always make comments that they want the accused person to get raped while in prison? Why is that? Don't they realize that when that happens a rapist is getting away with rape? For all we know "Bubba" could have been sentenced to prison for rape, and raping other prisoners could be heaven for him. Anybody who wishes rape on another person is sick in the head and in need of professional help.

I am saddened by these vicious lies about Mike! I have known him for many years and there is no way that this vicious LIES are true. I have spent alot of time with his family and can tell you these are false accusations! Alot of things will come out that will prove that all this is just a bunch of lies. Its sad and sickening that people jump on the bandwagon with no knowledge of what they are talking about to such horrible lies! I 100 percent believe Mike is innocent and would trust him with my kids life in a heartbeat!
sexual preditors are always very likable, and i beliece this is not his first time being accused of this, If you knew his wife you would know what a good person she is, almost all of the times that someone is accused of a crime like this, it's true.. being so likable and such a nice guy is how they get away with it, believe it or not
Well, if "MIKEY" get convicted, his butt better get what the rest of the sex offender get.
I am sick and tired of these "good ole boys" getting off lightly. If guilty, his crimes will put him away for many years. If he gets a light sentence, then go let him live under a bridge or behind a convenient store like the other sex offenders are forced to do.

If you know Mikey like you say. Then you know his father, and if you knew his father Then you should know that it is totally possible that these accusations are true.
I do hope that he will get a fair trial, and it is too bad that news and media has cast him as a guilty pedophile with out a trial.
If he is innocent and is sentenced to prison... God help him.
It is very unfortunate of the allegations against Mike. I have known Mike for several years and I never saw him exhibit the type of behavior or penchant for the types of things he is being accused of. I have always known him as a stand-up-guy, and a person that cared for other people to the point he was willing to become a police officer and lay his life on the line for others. I personally believe that these allegations will probably be proven untrue over the course of time, but unfortunately, this has severly damaged his reputation regardless. I hope that the truth will come out, and all those who brand him guilty before we know all the facts and the trial even begins will deeply consider thinking twice before drawing premature conclusions.
I have known Mike Akins Jr. for over 20 years. I do not believe for one minute that he could be guilty of such accusations. I trust him completely with my own life and that of my children. He is a kind, caring person who would not hurt anyone. When someone is in need, he is the first to help. That is the kind of person he is, not some monster that some would like to think he is. These accusations are simply that�accusations. He has not been proven guilty of anything! Please remember that before jumping on a bandwagon to slander an innocent man.
