Tom Powell was working on renovations at Scott Fitness' newest gym, in the Broadway Valentine Shopping Center, a week and a half ago when he heard yelling coming from the parking lot. Several people outside the Uptown Theater were yelling at workers on the roof of the 10-story Ambassador Apartments (3560 Broadway), who'd sent a mini-avalanche of snow and ice crashing to the street and sidewalk below -- and onto Powell's 2003 Toyota Avalon, parked out front.
Powell says the trunk of his car was completely crushed. His insurance company estimates $1,250 worth of damage. "If it did that type of damage to my car, it would have seriously hurt or killed someone," Powell says.
people over there were not very gracious about it," he says of the
Ambassador's staff. "They more or less told me that I'd have to prove
it." His insurance company took pictures of the damage to his vehicle.
It
took a week to repair his car, Powell says. But even though he has it
back now, he's still pretty grouchy about the whole thing. "I see it as
a malicious act," he says. "It was intentional. The guy probably
thought it was funny to be throwing snow on somebody's car from the top
of a roof, but I think it's reckless endangerment."
No one from the Ambassador has returned The Pitch's calls yet. If we hear back, we'll post an update.
