In just a few minutes (11 a.m.), Rod Jetton's assault case is scheduled to be reviewed. Not sure what will come of the hearing, if anything.

According to Case.Net, on January 19, the attorneys in the case "agreed to set matter for preliminary hearing without appearance 01/21/10; Agreement accepted by Court therefore no appearance will be needed."

So it sounds like Jetton will be sitting this hearing out.

Earlier this month, Jetton, the former Missouri Speaker of the House and political power broker, entered a not guilty plea to second-degree felony assault charges in stemming from allegations that he choked and punched a woman during a night of sex.

There are several different stories of what happened.

Initially, there were reports of rough sex gone wrong (more here) with the alleged incident occurring at a woman's home in Sikeston, Missouri, in mid-November (read the complaint here).

The night went from watching football

and drinking wine to the woman claiming she faded in and out of

consciousness after drinking a glass of wine poured out of sight by

Jetton.

The night ended with Jetton allegedly punching and

choking out the woman, who told police after Jetton choked her out, she

woke up and Jetton was having sex with her from behind.

The next morning, Jetton supposedly told the woman: "You should

have said green balloons." He was apparently referring to a safe word

that would have stopped the rough sex play.

In the second telling,

taken from a victim's statement to Sikeston public safety

officers, Jetton dropped by the woman's Sikeston home with a couple of

bottles of wine. The two talked

politics and watched football, and Jetton allegedly repeatedly refilled

the woman's glass

out of sight. The woman rejected a couple of Jetton's alleged sexual

advances and the next thing she recalled, Jetton was allegedly

attempting

to tie her hands with

a leather belt. When she tried to stop him, Jetton allegedly began

repeatedly slap her in the face until she blacked out.

The woman told officers that when she woke up, Jetton was allegedly

choking her and her hands were tied up. She passed out again.

When the woman regained consciousness, Jetton was allegedly having

intercourse with her. The woman told police that she was too weak to

stop him.

The next morning, Jetton allegedly kissed her on

the mouth and told her, "I told you to say green balloons."

The woman was treated at an emergency room for injuries to her face, ear, neck,

buttocks, ankle and breast.

Jetton has maintained that he is innocent.
